PNG files not displaying correctly

I was testing an older game and noticed that there are a select number of actors (png files) not displaying correctly when I hit the "Preview" button. It basically just displays a white box in place of the graphic itself.

However, If I hit the "Play" button within the scene, all the actors will display correctly.

Some of the things I have tired:
- I have re-imported and replaced all the problem graphics.
- Created a new actor (with no code within) and replaced the png graphics.
- Re-saved graphics in Photoshop as new PNG and replaced graphics.

The only thing that DOES work is: (hit the Play button or)
If I create a new Project from scratch and import graphics - everything looks fine.
This made me believe that this could be a code issue, however there are some graphics that will display correctly and others that do not. Completely random.

Any ideas?

I would re-install GameSalad and if that Doesn't work I don't know what else to tell you other than to try and copy/paste your project or start from scratch.

I will try to re-install and hope for the best.
Maybe I am not grasping everything about "copy/pasting my project from scratch" but we are talking months worth of code. That does not seem fun. :(

    (crossing fingers) >re-installing<

    ....and.... NOPE.
Re-installed GameSalad and the same problem exists.

@xacto I mean't copy/paste the GameSalad Project file, and see if that fixes it. Also try restarting your computer. Other than that, I'm REALLY sorry, but you can still copy/paste the individual Rules and re-create it all that way.

    Here is some more info...

I created a new project and dragged and dropped all of my "images" from my old to the new. I then drag and dropped some of the "Actors" that ARE working from the old to the new and they looked perfect. However, when I drag and drop one of the "defective" actors to a new project file the default icon image says "Image Missing"

So, this sounds like there is some kind of "bug" or "corruption" with the linking. I have tried re-importing all artwork my files (and re-assign them) like I said above and it still does not work. Are there any issues that you are aware of with storing files on Dropbox? Can this corrupt linking to PNG files.

Again, the PLAY button will show all my actors perfectly. The PREVIEW button does not.

Sorry for all the back and forth but I can not imagine starting from scratch again -- only to worry about this happening again in the future.

    Cheers!

Okay do this copy the code then make a new actor and paste the code into it then delete the old on.

    FryingBeacon,
Gave it a try and same problem. :(

I even went back to earlier versions of the game and they all have the exact same problem. I even tried to upload this as an HTML5 game on Gamesalad and it freezes up.

    I give up. Seeya!

Sometimes images with very short names (1.png; a.png; etc.) doesn't display correctly. Check the names of your files.

Not sure if this will work in Preview mode, though. But you can give it a try.

Names are longer and tried to re-name them. Still no luck. :(

Save them as .PSD files and let GS convert them for you.

    I know that art :)

    @xacto

This happens to me occasionally, but I can quickly fix it by re-importing the image. Also, if you haven't tried this, do it... Go into the prototype of your actor and drag the .png file onto the thumbnail image in top left.

Let me know if this works,

That happens to me too sometimes...

    My solution :

1-Right clock on your game project and "show content"
2-Go to the image folder and delete this picture.
3-Go on photoshop (or other software), open your original picture and save it again as web, PNG 24 or 8.
4-Open your project in the GS Creator and re-import the PNG file you just saved with photoshop...

    Now all is good ;)

    Hope that helps.
    Cheers!
