I cant find specific details of what is in pro.

Hi,

Although my first game (almost ready) will be published under the free version of GS, i am doing this commercially so i want to know more about the pro version. The first app being a trial of the whole process before i commit $$ to the product.

This page; http://gamesalad.com/creator/specs

does not say very much and leaves me with the following questions;-

1) iOS Publishing, if i do NOT use pro when i publish does it appear under MY developer account or gamesalad's?
2) iOS Publishing, can i publish a universal binary?
3) All builds, with the pro version, do i get forced splash screen and adverts?
4) HTML5 publishing... what is published, a game built with html and javascript or just a HTML5 wrapper around a player, or something else. I have heard that HTML5 publishing requires the game to be hosted on gamesalad servers, is this true even with pro? (its a deal breaker if it is, since the games will be created for clients).
5) HTML5 publishing... can i use outside sources of data in the game and store scores etc in an external database?
6) Android publishing, are there limitations on which android devices are supported, if so which devices?
7) Android publishing, are there limitations on which stores can be used, if so which stores?
8) General question about pro, since you offer a Pro version with associated cost, what is the story behind not being at version 1.0 yet? Is this still beta software? In which case doesn't that contradict the whole concept of pro?

I am happy to pay for what i use when i plan to make money from a piece of software, but the pro deal, although quite cheap does not look like it offers the level of freedom that i would expect from a paid software development tool, I am happy to be corrected though.

Thanks,

Jez

    Your Account always.

    2) iOS Publishing, can i publish a universal binary?

GS has no binaries ATM, but easy enough to adjust projects for different resolutions/stores.

    3) All builds, with the pro version, do i get forced splash screen and adverts?

With pro, your own splash screen and no forced adverts.

With free, your own splash screen and forced adverts.

Yes, all HTML5 games must first appear on GS arcade. This is really a shame, and a reason why I don't even bother with GS HTML5. It is also inflexible, and GS branded. If you're buying solely for HTML capabilities, GS may not be your best option.

    5) HTML5 publishing... can i use outside sources of data in the game and store scores etc in an external database?

No databases, SQL, send/gets for any GS platform

    6) Android publishing, are there limitations on which android devices are supported, if so which devices?
    7) Android publishing, are there limitations on which stores can be used, if so which stores?

Limitations would be for specs, in terms of memory. GS does work well for Google Play, Amazon, and Nook stores.

This is still beta, and that has always been a topic of conversation. Most of the Pro features are for monetization of apps, and that's why there is a fee.

    Hope that helps some. :)

Thanks for such a quick answer, it is greatly appreciated!

Overall, i think i will probably still go pro and forget about HTML5 but i think it is a little misleading to claim HTML5 publishing. It is not relevant that it is HTML5 when it is publishing to the gamesalad arcade. Also while looking through some of the obfuscated code in the game iframes there is a couple of references to flash, maybe not as part of the game itself, but nevertheless gamesalad arcade games do not run in the browser on my iphone.
Would "publishing to the web" or "publishing to game salad arcade" been worse from a marketing point of view as it doen't jump on the HTML5 bandwagon?

Its may not be intentional, but it comes over as misleading when a company makes these kind of claims that are not entirely true! Which in turn makes people like me much more cautious about spending money on the pro version.

Anyway enough rambling, you gave me the info i asked for so thank you very much.

Go to this page, and scroll down to the bottom to the list of features.
    http://gamesalad.com/creator/pricing

Also refer to the comment above. And Also you can publish to your own website with the embed code.

And it DOESN'T use Flash. It uses HTML 5.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks, although i did put that link in my original post since the feature list doesn't explain what is published when publishing to HTML5, nor does it answer the questions i listed...hence the reason for posting.

The two replies on here now say different things but there is no detailed list that i can find on gamesalad.com

Publishing to your own website via embed code is not really publishing to your own website, just putting an iframe to gamesalad.com. I explained that this related to working on products for clients, so these details are very important.

I did also mention that the game doesn't use flash, but aspects of the viewer on arcade.gamesalad.com DOES use flash, and since the game doesn't run on an iPhone web browser there is something that is not right.... it may be that it is not a flash based problem but a basic list as shown on the specs page doesn't cut it when you are trying to make a business decision on purchasing software, no matter what the cost.

Real bummer with forced adds, it looks so....yuck seeing those adds pop up (no one likes junk mail). I'd rather have the GS splash screen pop up (I never had an issue with this displaying what creator was used to create the game). Oh well...seeking GS pro anyway.
