Hello All! New Member here.... I started making apps for android on windows, but now i am getting a Mac because I would love to develop for iOS also, So there is a few things I would like to know about Gamesalad

1)Im good with Java and HTML, Do i need to know anything else?
2)Is making Apps "easy" on gamesalad?
3)What kind of Requirements does my computer need?
4)How much money is it for the service? I developed my app on Android using Buzztouch and i had a limit of 500,000 views per month and if i went over i would have to pay, so im just curious how everything works here and would love to join the GameSalad Family!

    - No, GS (GameSalad) doesn't use any coding whatsoever. It's a drag/drop environment.

    2)Is making Apps "easy" on gamesalad?
    - Absolutely. Even though I know how to program I still use GS because of how easy it is to use and to make apps with.

    3)What kind of Requirements does my computer need?
    - If your buying a new computer, you shouldnt need to worry about it. Just get the biggest and baddest you can without going over your budget. GS doesn't use that much CPU.

    4)How much money is it for the service? I developed my app on Android using Buzztouch and i had a limit of 500,000 views per month and if i went over i would have to pay, so im just curious how everything works here and would love to join the GameSalad Family!
    - GS is 100% free unless you want pro features. When you publish free though they throughout an ad for a app when you open the app for the first time and when you close/open the app. If you get pro, you get a lot of great features like:
    * In App purchase
    * Twitter (requires user to be on iOS 5+)
    * Kiip rewards (easy google search will tell you what this is)
    * NO Ad at the beginning.
    * You can see them all by scrolling down to the bottom of this page: http://gamesalad.com/creator/pricing

    OH! And WELCOME TO GAMESALAD!

    Hey CodeMonster, i checked out the link, it says iADS with the pro version
    What if i wanted to put AdMob for a free version instead of iADs
  • Braydon_SFXBraydon_SFX Member, Sous Chef, Bowlboy Sidekick Posts: 9,273
    GameSalad doesnt support AdMob at this time.
  • ceerupceerup Member Posts: 10
    Thank you for the answer, Theres not much of a difference in AdMob and iADS are there?
  • Braydon_SFXBraydon_SFX Member, Sous Chef, Bowlboy Sidekick Posts: 9,273
    From what I've read, AdMob is much better, I believe it shows more ads and thus you receive more cash. :)

    one more question, im sorry for bothering, but is the sky the limit to making an app with game salad? or making games are limited to what you can do in your game? for example lets just say whoever made angry birds for example

    is something like that capable of making in gamesalad? not that i want to make a game like that but just using that as an example...

    Yes, you can create angry birds in GameSalad. However, you couldn't create Infinity Blade.........yet. :)

    @ceerup

    Angry birds is possible, but would require an extreme amount of polishing and an expertise in GameSalad :)

    Just remember that GameSalad is limited to 2D programming, but you can make effects and animations to give it a 3D feel.

    awesome!!! so the whole drag and drop is, i can make images and drop them into the game and have them do certain things..with my own made up images?
  • jckmcgrawjckmcgraw Member Posts: 647
    @ceerup

    Yup. You basically have a bunch of pre-made code (behaviors) that you can edit and drag and drop into different actors. Then you have attributes (variables) that you can access, save, edit, change and so much more.

    Angry Birds was just luck in my opinion, make a great game and it'll get noticed. Many great games have come from this community. Take your time and learn GameSalad, then make the game that your proud to produce.

    @jckmcgraw okay thats awesome, so once i pay the 299 dollars, i can put iADs or i can charge for my app? and does gamesalad get a piece of the pie? or once the app is mine and in the market i own it?

    @Braydon_SFX

    Angry Birds was a bit lucky, but if you really look at the fine details that are in all of the effects, they are pretty nice in my opinion.

    @ceerup

    As you probably already know, GameSalad is free. You can publish it to Apple, and even charge money for it. The only thing that GameSalad takes is $300/yr if you want to go pro. By the way, Apple takes 30% of all earnings :(

    ohh its yearly okay, and the free version you can still charge for an app but gamesalad has an ad in the beginning right? or did i misinterpret that sentence, again sorry for asking so many questions im just excited about creating things
  • Braydon_SFXBraydon_SFX Member, Sous Chef, Bowlboy Sidekick Posts: 9,273
    Jack, true, but that can all be done in GameSalad. You could probably do more effects if you took the time. Granted, the game is very well pollished.
  • jckmcgrawjckmcgraw Member Posts: 647
    @Braydon_SFX

    They can definitely be done. I was just mentioning that Angry Birds wasn't complete luck getting up there

    @ceerup

    Yup

    Don't forget about the developers fee you have to pay apple to be able to publish. It's about $90.
    Having some coding skills might help you btw. Although GS is drag and drop it still uses "if then else" like stuff. And being good at math can make GS do al sorts of crazy stuff too.
    Big advantage of GS is speed. You can make a prototype in hours. Building a good polished game takes a lot more time depending on your skills ofcourse.

    Welcome!!

    Keep in mind that Rovio almost went bankrupt after 8 yrs. and 51 games before they hit it with Angry Birds.
  • NmdogdudeNmdogdude Member Posts: 174
    @ceerup I chose Gamesalad because there's no coding, just drag & drop images on your screen with different attributes/behavior
    Also in order to publish to the appstore you need an apple developer account (which is $99/year)
    Also If you want my opinion, publishing is the hardest (still trying to get my app to get published).
    Where's my manners haha welcome to Gamesalad :)>-

    They had few great games - Darkest Fear series, and my favorite game for old mobiles - Wolfmoon.

    @dogdude yes i have the 99 a year developer account, ive published apps (on android) but nothing like games, just html and javascripting

    @ludwig ok thats cool, i know the else and ifs so thats pretty good

    also im a good image maker, i have a question, since its 300 dollars a year, what happens if one year i dont pay it because i have no money, what happens to my app in the appstore from the times i payed the 300?
  • jonmulcahyjonmulcahy Member, Sous Chef Posts: 10,408
    nothing, it stays in the store. the $300 a year fee is only for publishing your apps to iOS. once they are in apple's court they stay there as long as you pay the $99 a year.

    thank you jon for the answer, thank you all, you all were very helpful
