Ok so i have put more work into my next game than my others combined and i am at a point where i have most of the art done and its time to really start building the game.

I started out wanting to do a simple Labyrinth game for kids but with ladybugs instead.
Simple enough, for kids only.
As i started to build i added a bombing beetle with a slingshot and realized there is some really good potential for some cool puzzle challenges that would make it MAYBE too advanced for a kids game

however lady bugs are more for kids.

SO....... If anyone has time to check it out I'd like to hear some opinions as to keep it simple and go with ladybugs or make it more challenging and change the ladybug to something else... or maybe i'm too worried and a complicated kids game is fine..

Im just really having a hard time with what direction to go.

this is just a start but here is what it is looking like

They BOTH sound like good ideas. My advice is go ahead with the kiddie version. And also begin work on a more complex version with more puzzle like elements - I.E. your bombing beetle idea.

Nothing wrong with having two games. :)

    Yeah thats true
Maybe the lady bug can be a free version that has an advertisement for a full game or something with more bugs?

    @beaudoin_n

    Sorry, cant help that
gonna have to go ahead and let GS take the fall for that one lol

yeah, it crashes for me too, right when I hit the zone 1 level 1 button.

I suspect that there is a corrupt or missing image in there somewhere. That stuff usually will play fine in GS, but will crash the browser

I totally agree with jhaas, would also recommend you don't do all the art at once until your sure it can be done and you want it too because thats what I did at first and drew all my art first and then I just kept changing ideas until I finally got one that I wanted and one that worked haha maybe I just cant ever make up my mind though! Best of luck to you!

It looked like it meshed with some other upload. It said it had 200 some plays which, isn't right at all.

I re uploaded and it went faster and is working for me.

As far as the art work i had pretty much built a test level and liked it so that was when i started to fill in the blank actors with artwork and planned to move forward.. Hadnt put together all the menus and high score keeping but was almost ready to do all the final stuff.

I had thought i was about to start grinding out levels

EDIT... I guess what i am saying is i have the level elements ready to start building with the directions still open

What about a ladybug with attitude. There's that lady bug in A Bugs Life or the grouchy lady bug by Eric Carl.

Or a bitchy chick ladybug that is trying to avoid average bugs on her way to buy 3 pairs of shoes...

    or not...

HOw do you Start...LOL..i cant find it anywhere

The beetle blasts away stuff (launch like angry birds)

then the lady bug actually moves like a lab game just use the arrow keys. You have to touch her to allow movement. If it is lab style I didn't want the lady bug rolling all over until you cleared what was needed with the bomber first

you can't really win a level or die though it's just the functionality and layout.

@scitunes. So I think iget what you are saying.

It could be a way to bridge both demographics.
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
Yeah. I see what you mean. If it had a name like mr lady bug maybe a wider appeal

however since posting this the idea of two games does sound nice.

I could tie hunnens pre release idea in too

the lady bugs could just be one level and use as a lite pre release in te kids section

out stink bugs in the adults section and then two weeks later release a full version with like five bugs and a hundred plus levels

but yeah you are right I think I was over worried about lady bugs being kiddie

it's no e to bunce some ideas off folks. Sometimes it's hard working alone.

    Ok odd.....

This game overwrote my first game tiny monster...

Just realized it has all the comments and plays from tiny monster dating back to january
and my original game is no longer on teh GS website. It has completely replaced it

maybe something goofed when you uploaded it...
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
Yeah. Must have been. It did hang for a long time right in the middle.

Not anything major since it was just a tester and the game it deleted was old.

The only thing that makes me a little worried is that the game worked for me but not for so many others. Hopefully just a one time glitch.

    it worked for me
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
Ok cool thanks for the opinions

Like i said, working as a one man team does lack one of the most important things which is bouncing some ideas around.

Im just gonna make it a straight up lady bug labyrinth. Keep it simple. I have the mechanics in place to do something more complicated down the road once i'm done.

At least along the way i was able to come up with a pretty descent "angry birds" style slingshot that can come in handy for a lot of things.

I think the demo is working now too.

I know how to make an object that you pull back and let go of. I imagine you used VectorToAngle to get the green sligshot lines to always point towards the bug. Did you just use a change size attribute to get them to "stretch"?
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
yes much like the pool demo for the stretch

but you want the strings off of two things around you of course

    Ill post it later today
