How to Save/Load a Scene

Hey guys,

So I have an app that allows the user to manipulate items and move them around via 'drag and drop'. If the user were to go back to the 'Main Menu' scene then wouldn't it erase the game scene? Is there a way to save a scene where the user left it and then load it back via a load menu?

There are:
No levels
No checkpoints
No common sense way to save the location of every item on the screen with it's custom placement that I know of.

And it's a sandbox game.

Thanks in advance.

Just a guess but I'm guessing it would have to do with when an item is created an entry for that item is created inside of a table and it saves it's X,Y, coordinates and image etc... Then when reloading the scene it recreates based on the entered data.
