Sound or mute?

Hi guys, just have a quick question, if you wouldn't mind letting me know your opinions : I'm putting together a simple shoot-em-up, and was wondering whether to add sound... I know that this kind of thing is down to the individual, but having seen so many players doing their thing while listening to tracks on their iPod, I got to wondering whether sound fx were really neccessary? Would you miss them if you were to play a mute game? What do you think - sound or mute?

Thanks for your time...

Sound all the way - it's an important part of your game.

i never mute the sound in games. can't play without it. if im playing a game im probably playing it to either pass time or help get my mind away from the real world. putting the sound on mute would remind me that the real world is still there lol

@Braydon_SFX : I can see the obvious benefits of sound, and how it can be indispensible to some, but I also know people who will always mute 'unnecessary' sound as they find it off-putting. I'm figuring that I'll probably add sound and a mute option, but it's always interesting to hear other people's opinions...

    Thank you for yours, sir.

Thanks for your input, people. I've finalised the sound to be included in the game, and the difference it's made is quite noticeable! Again, many thanks!
