We NEED Android monetization (gathering support)

bazookaBenbazookaBen Member Posts: 318
i think it's time to push for

- ads (RevMod, GreyStripe, Admob, etc)
- in-app purchases
- subscription via in-app purchases

Android is an interesting market, but without the strength of the 3 models above, i find it hard to compete.

Anyone want to push for this too? Please reply and support!

Problem is ... Its not all about you ... or me ... or any of us. Yes its true theres no lights on without us but its also true that GS need to make money in other ways. Ad Mob I'm assuming would not partner up, where as Kiip and PlayHaven have, resulting in some money for us and also some for GameSalad.
Is Kiip or PlayHaven a success story for GameSalad or GameSalad Developers?

Is it better for GameSalad to swing for the fences, or just keep moving forward with steady base hits?

In the other thread, I listed four missing GameSalad features...

    • Universal Binaries
    • AdMob
    • HTTP Requests
    • Professional Grade HTML5 exporting

None of those are really that challenging technically. That's one of my biggest problems with GameSalad... that my projects might have to underperform because it doesn't fit with GameSalad's revenue generating plans. It's why I hesitate to launch any new GameSalad project.

It's a tough spot for me, because I'm really impressed with the news of the GameSalad Windows Beta. That's a really good move.

So, I wait and watch. I wait to see how and when GameSalad will improve.

Photics do you happen to have a programming background? I came from the HTML5/JS background. I got tired of building "bridges" from HTML5 to Native.
I have experience with web development languages, like HTML, PHP, javascript, ActionScript. I've also made apps with Eclipse/Android and Xcode. It's not fun for me. I don't like to code. It's just so tedious. I can think logically, but I hate having to keep track of things like curly brackets, semicolons and quotes. GameSalad is just more fun and much faster.

In the recent Business Insider article about GameSalad/Steve Felter, there was an interesting comment made by a poster... it's easy to hit the ceiling with GameSalad. Basically, the sentiment was echoed... that somehow an easier way to program is not real programming. I don't agree with this. I don't use a command prompt to copy files. I use software like Windows or Mac OS X. GameSalad is a translator, so I don't have to master multiple programming languages to port my game... Objective-C, Java, HTML5.

The real limitations on GameSalad are not technical. They're either by design (no coding) or political (Kiip/PlayHaven over AdMob).

Lately, much of my day is about web development. I make interactive web elements in Flash/AS2, so that it can be ported to HTML5 with Google Swiffy. (I still use Flash because HTML5 support is still spotty. http://html5test.com ) It's a really lame way to work, but that's because the HTML5 creation software hasn't matured. Quite often, I think to myself... "I could do this in like five seconds with GameSalad or Stencyl."

When I look at programs like Hype or Adobe Edge, I think GameSalad could blow them away.

    also, look at this article
    http://www.insidemobileapps.com/2012/05/25/appcelerator-fragmentation-monetization-issues-hurting-interest-in-android-development/

monetization is a big factor hurting developers interest. Personally, i want to deploy all my games on android. But charging upfront will not get me any visibility.

I have two small success games on android, and have no way to monetize them.

I agree. There's no chance to get paid with paid apps on Play store. We need ads for android!

One of my games made £115 last month on google play, and looks like it will do roughly the same again this month (slightly more).

Not millions...but it's deffo possible to make "some money" with paid apps on Play.

    Admob
I don't know why this is such an issue for GameSalad. It's not a huge technical challenge, as it's not much different than adding iAds.

I see that you've posted in this thread...

Why do you think this thread will make a difference?

@Sparkyidr - what's your game? I'll buy it. Also, how did you market your game? via Android blogs, forums? What do you recommend?

    @scrapee_net - what's your game?

i think we need a variety of ways, not just one.

IMHO, it's a resources challenge. GS has teams working on stuff, but which stuff to tackle first?

One thing i really liked was they truly listen to user feedback. So let's band together!

I think AdMob should have been added WAY before Kiip and PlayHaven.

I've been successful with AdMob in the past.

I would like AdMob too - but I think things like these will be added in due time. GameSalad is working on things we've wanted, and they continue to do so. For example, Lua free engine, it'll make our games much faster! Also a new and improved UI!

@BazookaBen - In-App Purchases are available to Pro members.

The game is "Stickman Base Jump"....it's not particularly great or anything.
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flamingmitten.basejump&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mbGFtaW5nbWl0dGVuLmJhc2VqdW1wIl0.

As for marketing for the android version....we did the sum total of.....nothing at all. I didn't even do a Facebook post about it.

Ohh, wow. That's great for google play. Best what I have heard. I have made 8% of the Apple sales on Google play (same apps, same prices).

Anyway I think you could earn more with ads.

@Photics i absolutely agree. Somehow GS's plans moving forward doesn't exactly gel with my revenue generation plans too. THis is for Android.

But i'm not waiting. I just keep building em games, launching em. When the time comes, i'll be ten times better with building games, and hopefully GS surprises me with an awesome revenue model.

perhaps samsung ads would be a solution. samsung devices are the most sold android phones
example galaxy II and samsung Note and the coming galaxy3 gonna be out soon.
  • bazookaBenbazookaBen Member Posts: 318
@fedi with GameSalad, there's just no way to integrate anything ourselves. Man, there should be some interface where we could write some code
  • fedifedi Member, PRO Posts: 31
thats why gamesalad schould check for an agrement with samsung. ore possibility to have google ads

Definitely we need more monetization options for Android as soon as possible. Admob would be great!
  • bazookaBenbazookaBen Member Posts: 318
@Photics agreed. GameSalad is a huge timesaver in terms of dev. That matters
  • LeonardDeveloperLeonardDeveloper Member Posts: 4,630
Honestly, We deffinately need a lot more forms of monetization for the "foreign" stores such as; B&N, Amazon & Android
  • bazookaBenbazookaBen Member Posts: 318
@LeonardDeveloper how was your experience publishing for B&N? There seems to be an approval process to be a developer. Do they look for past apps, reputation, etc?
  • lycettebroslycettebros Member, PRO Posts: 1,598
Yep sign LycetteBros up for this one. Admob would give us at least one possible revenue option on Android.
Remember, our success is GameSalad's success.

Monetization for Android is defiantly a must. As our company is growing we will be releasing many more apps to the Android Store. We would like to make money off of the free versions of our games on the Android stores. Admob would be preferred. Possibly Google Adsense as well.

it's good to hear so many people needing android monetization!
