A good and insightful article on Gamasutra:

Personally I fully agree with the article. That's what I've been doing since I started GS, I have earned next to nothing with my games but I don't regret anything. My games are my precioussssses and I'm really fond of them. :)

    Great article, thanks for posting!

I agree with it all of course.

Unfortunately reality bites, and some games work better in different markets.

I would still give the same advice - make something you want to make, not something you think will sell.

    QS :D

Cool article. And yeah, you should only make games you want to play - like I do :)

I guess so. I guess thats the right attitude in any creative venture. The super brothers game had a budget of $200k...which tends to help. The mine craft guy is a genius. As far as making money, I've had the opposite experience maybe I'm need to give it a few more try's .

That's really the trick to it all. Not games that you think people will buy up like hot cakes, but games that are much like what grandma bakes. Games with love baked into them. Those tend to be decilious.

Once you work a project with someone else's vision, wants and needs, your creative personality is already misplaced. It's much like tackling a chore you would rather not do. This is what kills me when I see large studios force their perspective on what they think the gaming audience wants while repeating trends over and over again. It was not so long ago when many of these studios were more open and free with their designers.
