GS is available for free, and Pro is already cheap enough. I remember times when it was for 1999 USD. Then people were complaining, so GS changed price to 499 USD, but there still were people who wanted it cheaper. Now it's just 299 USD, and you still don't like it. I'm sure that if Pro is for 10 USD, there will still be people who thinks that it's too expensive.

okay i had no problem with the pricing model after the last change. i thought it was awesome. but since the latest playhaven changes. not happy at all. i really think there should be a third option for SIMPLY being able to have an account thats not riddled with advertisements. me, at this point in time i really dont care whatsoever about a majority of the pro features. i just really dont want ads on my game. ok. so people say "go pro". well im not going to spend money for a bunch of features i dont need right now. i just want those ads gone. why not give people another option maybe a "basic" account. 99/year just to have ads removed. no more, no less. then take this into consideration, potentially those people will upgrade to full pro, so thats another $299 in GS' pockets. So you could potentially be making $400 per person. think about it. would you go and buy a ferrari for a to b, daily driver? would you go and buy a years worth of groceries if you knew you only had a month to live? do you get my point. if there was a third option in that number range, then you would of had my money MONTHS ago. instead, no im still sitting here with my money in my pocket.

Yeah doing business costs money. What do you want everything for free? I mean give me a break, save up and pay what it costs to have no ads. I work another job along with game development what's so hard to understand that things cost money. You need food more than GS and they don't give that out for free. I mean come on let's get real about life..

I think @fryingbaconstudios sums it up pretty well.

yeah 300 is pretty cheap for someone serious about this. Thats low average for what most of my work software costs, (3dsmax photoshop z brush.)
i have not got pro yet, still working on learning, but i'm sure before i publish i'll pony up the money for pro.

I agree with @FryingBaconStudios -- but, free users did get a bit screwed by this update. It was working one way, and now it's working a completely different way.

Maybe they should make an student pricing, like adobe make it,the young programmers could go pro easily and make great game to sell....

The problem with that is you are distributing your games commercially. Student discounts/education edition software licenses are not eligible for commercial use.

What are we going to ask for next, weekly or hourly licenses?

299 for GS. I'm sure many folks did not think twice about dropping that amount for their last game console. The 299 price point is more than reasonable. My Torque license was more than double that. You are lucky you don't have to pay each time you publish under the free version.

SDKs are not used cars that you wheel and deal over trying to haggle the price down. If you are serious you will find a way to get what you need.

Or have GS pay us to use their software. ;)

    thanks didn't know that...
i planned making games with the free version of gamesalad and then go pro when i made enough money, but with the free version and these ads i don't think i could take money for the game.

I'm willing bet GS makes more on the ad feature than the price per year you're requesting. As @IsabelleK said when it's $100 you'll be wanting $20. @xforce you've only been a member for two months these type of price arguments have been going on forever. $299 is it, take it or leave it. As SSS said in another thread the price isn't going to change.

299$ is a bargain and it's pretty easy to take it back with sales from games. If someone is not able to raise that much maybe he should consider taking up another job to pay for it.

I remember when Pro was at 2000$ everyone cried to drop it to 500, now it's only 300$... :(

The price was just dropped not long ago from $499 to the new, very reasonable and low price of $299. It's unlikely to change anytime soon.

@fryingbaconstudios no. this isnt my original account. ive been using GS for a year now. i dont want the price of pro to change. it should stay as is. free is free. but there should ideally be another option to pay to have the ads removed. right now im not interested in android sdk, IAP, iAds, and whatever else. this also isnt any kind of bash at GS for even having ads as its already been discussed to death that they're required now to keep GS alive. its the fact that it was changed from the 1 ad showing at the start, to a now 25 percent chance of seeing an ad every. single. scene change.

I challenge anyone to find a pro grade software that cost less that $299

The closest I can think of is the adobe suite at $1,000

This is ironic... the price drops.... You want Another price drop... As My grandmother used say "Your offered an inch, and take a mile"

The price is very good. $299 is super cheap for this kind of software.
The worth of this software is far more than $299
If you want to make money, you must invest money, that's with every kind of business.
And I'm Dutch, many people call us misers!!!

@WTDeveloper I think that $299 is already a student price!

I'm a new user of GS, but nevertheless, I'd like to say my piece : when I first decided that I wanted to expand my puzzle creation (some of my puzzles feature daily in national newspapers) into the app field, I did some research, discovered that I needed to learn a whole bunch of languages (if I was going to do it properly, and understand what I was doing), and invest time and money on something which may or may not materialise.

I then came across GS, which sounded perfect for my needs. Its WYSIWYG approach to app coding seemed just up my street (nothing against raw coding, I just don't have the time available to bury my head in books for months). I was able to try it out for free. I took that opportunity, and within days I was putting a little something together. Soon afterwards I went Pro, as I would like to take advantage of the benefits of such an account. Now, $299 isn't a small amount of money, but if I have confidence that I can create a commercially-viable product that can be sold worldwide from the comfort of my armchair, so to speak, then it is most certainly a justifiable expense.

All that said, I see no reason why people should not offer up feedback, and consumer responses in a respectful manner. I'm sure GS are more than happy to listen to feedback - whether it is good, bad or indifferent.

On a final note, I'd like to say that I also appreciate the camaraderie here, and the fact that users are happy to offer help to one another on this forum in a friendly manner. : )

@JoVe i don't think so. you earn from your daily work, i earn only at christmas and on my birthday :D

The worst part about this idea is it would screw Gamesalad over a ton. You only NEED pro for ONE day really. And that is to implement the pro features, and publish. So you could pay your "20$" for one month, and then not pay until your next game. That's exactly why such a deal with never be offered.

I've only been a member for a short time, but I think $299 is very reasonable. I will be getting it once my game is closer to completion.

As for ads being removed for the free version, I think that at the end of the day, GS is still a business. Without a steady revenue stream, we as GS users all lose. It costs money to update and maintain GS. It's just like people complaining about free games on the App Store having ads. Are you serious? I hate ads with a passion, but if it's free I don't think I have a right to complain. It annoys me when people have this sense of entitlement to other peoples work for nothing (I think @Braydon_SFX said it best above!).

But as xforce has said, he's not arguing about the $299 price point, or making it free. He's asking for another pay-model. Using the App Store as an example, when I got annoyed enough with the ads for apps I used regularly, I happily paid for the upgrade. I think there is some merit in his argument of having a lower price point just to have ads removed.

But a whole lot of factors do come into play. Does Playhaven generate more than $99 per free GS user? I doubt it. Would this then be more profitable for GS? Maybe.

Or is the removal of ads one of the primary reasons for most people to go Pro, thereby lessening the chances of subscribing to the $299 Pro membership?

My point is that nothing is really clear cut with these things. Personally, I think GS has done the best it can. They have offered up a feature rich, ad-supported, free option, but they still need to maintain a paid model that is attractive to potential subscribers. I understand where xforce is coming from, but when you look at the prices of software these days, $299 is actually a very fair price. It's a small price to pay towards the people who have worked hard to save you all the hours you would have needed learning Objective-C.
