299 for GS. I'm sure many folks did not think twice about dropping that amount for their last game console. The 299 price point is more than reasonable. My Torque license was more than double that. You are lucky you don't have to pay each time you publish under the free version.
SDKs are not used cars that you wheel and deal over trying to haggle the price down. If you are serious you will find a way to get what you need.

thanks didn't know that...
i planned making games with the free version of gamesalad and then go pro when i made enough money, but with the free version and these ads i don't think i could take money for the game.

I remember when Pro was at 2000$ everyone cried to drop it to 500, now it's only 300$...
The closest I can think of is the adobe suite at $1,000
The worth of this software is far more than $299
If you want to make money, you must invest money, that's with every kind of business.
And I'm Dutch, many people call us misers!!!
I then came across GS, which sounded perfect for my needs. Its WYSIWYG approach to app coding seemed just up my street (nothing against raw coding, I just don't have the time available to bury my head in books for months). I was able to try it out for free. I took that opportunity, and within days I was putting a little something together. Soon afterwards I went Pro, as I would like to take advantage of the benefits of such an account. Now, $299 isn't a small amount of money, but if I have confidence that I can create a commercially-viable product that can be sold worldwide from the comfort of my armchair, so to speak, then it is most certainly a justifiable expense.
All that said, I see no reason why people should not offer up feedback, and consumer responses in a respectful manner. I'm sure GS are more than happy to listen to feedback - whether it is good, bad or indifferent.
On a final note, I'd like to say that I also appreciate the camaraderie here, and the fact that users are happy to offer help to one another on this forum in a friendly manner. : )
As for ads being removed for the free version, I think that at the end of the day, GS is still a business. Without a steady revenue stream, we as GS users all lose. It costs money to update and maintain GS. It's just like people complaining about free games on the App Store having ads. Are you serious? I hate ads with a passion, but if it's free I don't think I have a right to complain. It annoys me when people have this sense of entitlement to other peoples work for nothing (I think @Braydon_SFX said it best above!).
But as xforce has said, he's not arguing about the $299 price point, or making it free. He's asking for another pay-model. Using the App Store as an example, when I got annoyed enough with the ads for apps I used regularly, I happily paid for the upgrade. I think there is some merit in his argument of having a lower price point just to have ads removed.
But a whole lot of factors do come into play. Does Playhaven generate more than $99 per free GS user? I doubt it. Would this then be more profitable for GS? Maybe.
Or is the removal of ads one of the primary reasons for most people to go Pro, thereby lessening the chances of subscribing to the $299 Pro membership?
My point is that nothing is really clear cut with these things. Personally, I think GS has done the best it can. They have offered up a feature rich, ad-supported, free option, but they still need to maintain a paid model that is attractive to potential subscribers. I understand where xforce is coming from, but when you look at the prices of software these days, $299 is actually a very fair price. It's a small price to pay towards the people who have worked hard to save you all the hours you would have needed learning Objective-C.
