This is pertaining to 093 and the trick a lot of us do to use the same game for all versions, iPad and iPhone.
This is the one in which you change the camera dimensions to 320x480 at the start of each scene, and then you only need to flip the iPhone/iPad flag at the home screen to build each one.

Has anyone tried this with iPad retina? All performance concerns aside, just wondering....

Yes you can put 4x images into an iphone project but you will almost definitely destroy any chance or good performance for the iphone

Just make your art for ipad retina make your game for iphone size and then downsize the iphone versions art files. all you will have to do is swap out the images folder. its not gonna be a big deal and you will get much better performance for iphone. there is no reasonable reason to double your RAM usage for maybe 10 min of extra work.

You can't do it by making your images at 4x, and then just dividing by 4 for the iphone ones?
