Hello all,

I've bought recently Stormy Studios 3D Pseudo Blocks, and I'm testing how much "3D" juice I can take out of it, to implement in my future GS games, for backgrounds and such.

I've yet to master/tweak a few things, but It's a mix of clever design, hard coded math and trial and error.

Hope you guys like this first video!

Thanks! It's hard to get the effect you want, but I'm getting there. I want this framework to be my 3D background type for platformers and such. And it works great on the Ipod too.

A new video, achieving a more subtle and more realistic effect.

I think that is much better, a more subtle 3D effect. Love it!

This is pretty sweet. Just, in the second video, you might want to make the columns slide at different speeds too.

    Thanks guys!
    I'll try to improve it!

BTW, I'm guessing this is good for Pseudo 3D shooters too!

Ya. If you complete this with good quality, you might want to sell it as a template on the market.

Night Version, with torches! A quick change in color settings, and adding the torches, can give a pretty decent effect concerning light and such.

What do you guys think? Please give me more pointers where to improve! Zoyt, this was based on Stormy Studio's Template, so I can't resell it :) .

    Great job.
I hadn't remembered that, but with good use and creative thinking, a lot can be achieved! :)

Sorry. I meant like a shoot-em-up template with this or something. IDK.

And what about a 2.5 D platformer(sort of, but I'm pretty happy with the simple results!)
I think the possibilities are almost endless with smart level design.

And another. I have very few Pseudo 3D objects in this scene, but while using them and using "fake 3D" ones, It really looks 3D! I'm thrilled! From here, where to? ;)

At first, I saw the first video and thought "what in the world is this guy showing off??" ...
Now I see it, and it looks great, and very creative!!! great work man!

    Thanks!

I'm testing other uses of the 3D effect now, will post as soon as I have it done!

    Sweet! Can't wait!

First WIP on 3D top down. It's still buggy, but have a look. Notice the rollercoaster type thing, also with 3D effect. It ruins a bit of the FPS, but I'm working on it. For next effects, I'm going to make the ball change size, when it falls.

I'm controlling it with keys for the preview, but It's much better with accelerometer.

Love where you are taking this stuff.

Very impressive. I noticed that the concept is dramatically different between your initial tests to this one. Are you doing that as part of a game of as a learning/POC type of work?
  • alimpo83alimpo83 Member Posts: 188
Thanks guys. I'm testing it, pushing it to the max I guess. The second concept is actually something I want to develop in the future as a game, the first is for general background in platforming games and such.

A new video, showing the simple ball fall off animation. It's a simple one, and I want to improve it to add to the all "3D experience" . ;)

Now I'm trying to workout a way so that a player can go forward and backward (think First Person or changing 3D side scrolling platforms from near to far). Stormys blocks have the principle set, but it doesn't work properly, so you get forward and the objects get bigger, but the player gets lost : if you get too near 2 blocks, they will get over the player. I'm trying! Any ideas?

EDIT: I have got a basic principle set. I can set how much the player can go forward and limit it, then changing the player size to give the impression he's far from the main platform.

A very crude and initial video on what I'm managing to achieve, no nifty transitions (was made with change atribute instead of interpolate), but It's pretty advanced stuff for GS! I'm very happy with my tests and tweaks! Remember there is no Z-axis in a 2D engine ;)

At least the 2.5D platformer can be achieved, with even more results than my previous tests.
