Making an RPG/Zelda with GameSalad

I've been toying with the idea of making a small RPG game in the style of old 2D Final Fantasy's/Zelda's and such.

With writable tables is that now a strong possibility? Before it seemed like making an RPG with GameSalad would be a very messy hack job, but things like RPG Maker aren't Mac compatible.

    It was possible before.

    Examples...
    #1 - http://photics.com/bot
#2 - Zanda template by Deep Blue Apps

With tables, actors could be positioned according to table data... but I think it's easier to just place the actors on the scene. Sure, that causes a problem with loading, but supposedly the new GameSalad engine fixes loading times.

Although, this does remind me about my "Billy Jean" idea. If you've seen the Michael Jackson video, he walks and the tiles on the ground light up. With tables, it might be possible to do the same thing with actors... except it's the camera that causes the reaction. In theory, it could be a huge explorable area — that's seamless.

Even better, it could be a one scene game... avoiding those pesky interstitial advertisements for non-pro users.

Zanda...man I feel bad how that one got used and abused. I saw another game borrowing every last asset from Zanda and was even published while being an incomplete game. Reviews were not pretty..."where" is the rest of the game?". Sounds familiar.

Zanda is closer to what I want to do with it's tile based movement and such, though my game idea also involves a lot of menus Final Fantasy style.
Watching that Zanda video though, even just making actors able to walk behind each other seems like it would be crazy complicated.
My short RPG idea may be too ambitious for now.

You could just shoot for an arena type game that uses similar movements, inventory and such.
Just make a smaller playable environment to get the feel of what your will do in the next iteration. Your right though, the RPG realm can get insanely complicated on the back end. The more atmosphere you want to pack in, the complications increase.

Heh, that's my problem for the day. I'm trying to make actors follow the same path as the lead actor... like the orbs in Lifeforce or the orange ninjas in Ninja Gaiden. I often think... "This is too difficult!" ...but then I remember that these games were made for the 8-BIT Nintendo Entertainment System. If they could do it back then, I should be able to figure out a way to do it today.

I saw a program called Game Character Hub in Steam that allows you to create RPG style characters using a variety of options. Looked pretty neat.
