Project "Dolus" was supposed to be my first project made with game salad, but due to me not knowing well...anything... I pushed it aside and made Light the Way. Now, I'm reviving "Dolus" and work is in full swing!

Project "Dolus" is an adventure game with rpg aspects. Set in a mystical kingdom, players are tasked with hunting down a man who has intruded the royal castle and stabbed the newly elected king. However, as the story continues, players are taken on a roller coaster of a campaign, enduring twists and turns and intense battles along the way.

Background info: This game is based on a story I wrote during my senior year of high school

What I'm doing right now: Castle Courtyard (way early version, shown in video below) I need help, though. I need help..well..making things look good. Can you guys suggest what to add to each location or changes you would like to see?

Thanks for reading!

    Wow. This looks like a cool start. The controller is in a good place. As for the fighting, may I suggest something like the fighting mechanism in Infinity Blade? As for things to add, if you share the story, that would be great.

    @Zoyt hey, thanks for the comments. As for the help, I meant what should I add to the location to make it look like an actual castle courtyard. Sadly, I can't give out more story details without giving it away.

    Well on Zelda there tends to be statues,hedgerows,trees,fountains,shrubs and suchlike in the courtyards. If that's the effect you're looking for.
    Maybe you could add a little false perspective to the walls and other things you add,for depth.
    Sometimes you can get good ideas by searching Google images as well.

    Good luck!

    It’s not a bug – it’s an undocumented feature

    I'd love this if it had some pseudo 3d elements, Like 2.5d which can be easily done now that we have read/writable tables,

    @fal01 Love the avatar/Profile Picture ;)

    how do writeable tables help 2.5d at all ? @Leonarddeveloper
  • LeonardDeveloperLeonardDeveloper Member Posts: 4,630
    @mjmdesign
    With writable tables you can help to control the position of the actor, and the images it constrains to a lot easier, Well of course if your all ready capable of doing pseudo 3d,
    Maybe have a look at this thread it will help explain to you how pseudo 3d is much better with tables: http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/44390/pseudo3d-using-images-and-tables-i-hope-you-like-it#latest

    If I have time ill make a little demo incorporating writable tables & Tables...

    @Leonarddeveloper that'll be something to consider down the road. For now, though, Im just going to try and get everything working like it should.

    Also, do you guys think it would be easier to build each area (grass, terrain, etc) in a different software and import it, then add the barriers, or do each tile at once in game salad and use collision that way?

    @poorcollegedev
    What do you mean "different software" you mean like Art or.....?

    Check out @StormyStudio's 3D block template (stormystudio.com). Their pretty good looking and realistic.

    @Zoyt thanks for the reference! However, like stated above, Im going to work on the main mechanics, then move into the more complicated and extra stuff!

    Good choice. I do the exact same here. There's only one reason I haven't done my own WIP on my game: It's lack of graphics, music, sound effects, cool effects, and fear of my idea being stolen. But I think I will eventually.

    @Zoyt haha, baby steps man, baby steps!

    *****UPDATE #1*****
    Smallish Update right now. I'm pushing the courtyard back until I can draw up some designs for it. However, I've got the plans drawn up for the castle so Im starting on that

    *****UPDATE #2*****
    Smallish update again. I have to go bavk and change the castle floor tile because it kind of clashes with the walls lol. Other than that, the castle is shaping up nicely. I should have another DevDoc availavle within the next few days

    *****UPDATE #3*****
    Hey guys, I've got the second DevDoc for you guys! All it showcases at the moment is the layout of the castle. Now, Im going back in and adding stuff! Enjoy and C&C welcome!

    Hey guys, quick question. Does that tile look okay with the walls lol?
  • poorcollegedevpoorcollegedev Member Posts: 289
    Quick update here. I've been working on a new castle (didn't like the original layout), as well as a room transferring effect. A new DevDoc will be out soon!

    Why not do move to touch instead of the arrow controls?
  • poorcollegedevpoorcollegedev Member Posts: 289
    @JustMe74 sorry, I'm not following! Could you explain a bit more?
