Expressions inside the open URL pro behaviour.

Hey GS! I upgraded to pro about a month ago and was pretty excited to be able to use the Open URL behaviour, however I was quite surprised to see that you can not use an expression or point this behaviour to a variable for its path. This pretty much ruins everything I was planning to do with it and I have no idea why we wouldn't be able to feed dynamic data into this variable. Is there any way we can please please please change this? It opens up a world of possibilities for hooking up to dynamic website content, otherwise I have to build millions of Open URL behaviours with really sloppy code, which seriously sucks.

The Open URL Behavior is in desperate need of some attention, and adding in support for the expression editor is without a doubt, a necessary first step towards improving the Open URL behavior's functionality. This is not GameSalad delivering dynamic HTML 5 scripting, this is just adding the expression editor to a text box. That can't be too difficult.

This would be a great improvement. I doubt that it would be hard to incorporate either.

Hoping that this issue comes up enough for GS to appreciate it could be in the same realm of value to developers as Tables are (ie: huge). Please someone lean over the cubicle there at GS HQ and get your coders to spend a little time on it ... agree that it can't be hard to put in as it is not leading to an effect in GS.

This is the only place that you cannot put an expression.

I actually thought they were going to add this a while back. No idea why they went away from it. I to agree it opens up a lot of possibilities for developers for sure.

anyone who tweets willing to ask this in their live twitter session? I'm resisting the twitter thing cause I just don't get it (old I know :) ...) Thanks if you do ask.

I think this would be a great enhancement. Would you be ok with this functionality as a one way push with being able to receive a return code? Would URLs in general have a return element to parse in some cases?

I think we would want return codes and parsing as well. It would be nice to place returned data in tables since data structures are limited in GS.

@heathcc ... absolutely agree however that would require GS to do quite a bit of work on their end, perhaps even something they would want to wait for the lua free version ... first step would be just to allow dynamic URLs outwards which as mentioned can't be hard to implement and I think some might be amazed at what people could come up with to do with that!

I agree completely. I proposed that perspective because I wonder if they are thinking that it has to be a big feature instead of something small like that to add enough value.

@heathcc ... good point .... hope this gets enough attention from the forum that someone notices ... I saw that retina displays for the new iPad got moved up the GS to-do list because a number of people showed it was a needed feature .. so here's hoping!
Funny thing is I run a 'software as a service' company and often it is a simple feature or fix that my customers love the most ... I'd imagine this could fall into that category.

Glad to see some communal want for this option! Who doesn't want the ability to send data out of their GS app over our old friend HTTP? :) This has to be incredibly simple to fix considering theres a variable somewhere that lets us set these to whatever we like, just not whatever we like using data from our game.

i agree and i feel the pain of @domenius, it will take gamesalad to a whole new level, is there anyway we all can bring this together to the attention of the GS Dev team, or do we have to wait for another twitter Q&A?
