Good morning everyone,
Well I guess since no one else has, I'll go ahead and start the discussion thread for Apple's WWDC this year! In an effort to keep the forum clean during this very exciting time, let's keep all WWDC talk in this thread. In case you're not aware, here are the last-minute rumors of what we can expect (and what not to expect) at Apple's event today, which kicks off at 12:00 CST.
iOS 6:
The debut of iOS 6 will definitely be a major unveil at WWDC today. Not only because Apple has announced a new version of iOS for the last four years in a row at WWDC, and not because Apple execs have hinted about it over the past few months, but mostly because of banner outside of the event this morning.
Expect a host of new improvements to come from the iOS 6 debut today, including a new Maps app that will be different than Google Maps, currently in use on Apple's mobile operating system. To achieve this, and other new features, Apple will announce a slew of new partners throughout the event as well.
Apple Hardware:
Considering the online Apple Store was down this morning, it’s safe to say that the company is in the process of adding new products to its site. However, don’t expect to get a peek of the new hardware until the end of the event. Products that are being refreshed could include the Mac Pro, which hasn't been updated since 2010, as well as some of Apple's various laptop offerings. Don't look for an iPhone or iPad unveil today though.
OS X Mountain Lion:
This is another debut we can expect from WWDC today. Not only has Apple announced it's existence on its website, or because Apple has a history of updating OS X around this time of year, but again, because an OS X Mountain Lion banner can be seen outside of the conference - as shown in the picture above. Expect several new features to be included with Mountain Lion, including iMessage, Reminders, and Game Center. More info about OS X Mountain Lion can be found on Apple's website here.
iCloud and Siri 2.0:
Both an update to iCloud and Apple's digital assistant Siri can be expected at Apple's event today. After all, iCloud was a major unveil last year when Steve Jobs announced it, so I'm sure Tim Cook won't disappoint us either. And since Siri’s ability to connect with apps is virtually unlimited, she may be gearing up to take on bigger duties as of today.
Apple TV SDK:
The chances of an Apple TV SDK launch are about 50-50. To grow Apple TV and turn its box into a fully-integrated TV platform, the company would need to create an SDK and open up the floor to third-party developers. If I had to pick one way or another, I think there will be some announcement around the SDK today. However, one thing is for sure. If Apple does in fact launch an App Store on the Apple TV, GameSalad NEEDS to integrate publishing for it as fast as humanly possible!
Well I think that's about it. So, lets sit back and relax while Tim Cook and his team show us what's coming at Apple's World Wide Developers Conference 2012!
