First I start focusing on Development & Art and later on UI & Marketing.
I take my time to plan marketing and Ui later to get more polished games.

Everything! If you want to have a bestseller you have to focus on every little aspect of the game.

All of the above. You make great product by agonizing over every detail of your work. One bad area brings the whole thing down. It starts with refining the idea it's self before you even do anything most people get a half ass idea and then just start, then the thing gets out of hand and you do twice the work. I work out the idea then I do flow charts mapping out gameplay then decide the flavor of the game and settle on a style then I build blocks of protype code to test and refine code while the art is being worked on then I prepare all my art and sounds and build the game. @RP and I are working on a game together he is a great artist and we had tons of Skype meetings to work out the stuff and decide how the game would, play, look and feel and we discussed the options of how we wanted to monetize it. You should know all this before you start. Then I send him a menu system flow chart and he designs the menus and I do a prototype of the controls. Then you know if you need to add something and he can adjust the art while it's being worked on not later. While he does the props for the game I build the gameplay code and refine it. Right now we have a complex physics game with computer controled player and I expect we should be done by end of August so total time would be about 12 weeks start to finish.

Lol, The question is what do you MOST/MAINLY focus on, Be modest - There is at least one criteria that you spend most your focus on EVERYBODY (Well I should hope so) Pours there everything and all their focus into every area into their apps, But what criteria do you personally focus on the most

If I HAD to choose, it would probably be development and art... :-)

I try to focus on everything, but sometimes it doesn't succeed as much as I want.
It really depends on the game.

I think thats more or less the same for most of the passionate developers, But there has to be an area that the heart is set on most focus

Yes the perfectionist in me agonizes over everything. Since I also have extensive experience in motion graphics, video, audio engineering and computers it is only a matter of doing good work and not getting training in those areas.

I suck at computer graphics, therefore if I spend more time on them, the game will be better. Coding for me is fairly easy, art is tricky >:(

@LeonardDeveloper … it just has to be everything!

as each new project is a totally new adventure …
every one of your topicAreas requires total focus
though many of those areas often overlap …

for me, most times the code comes easy … but some times it is the art that is easy
SFX are always easy … music never!

ultimately, the first thing that requires total focus is the gameDesign
when you know where you are going … getting there is faster/easier

Design because I'm an artist but my next game I'm focusing on playability.

I definitely spend the least time on music and sounds so far. I try to make good art and also spend big chunks of time of coding/logic.

Well said - But I still have to argue that still there is one criteria that one must be more passionate about and one must spread there most focus one (And yes passionate developer try to cover every area - But theres always one most concentrated on) And for me thats Development and Art because the key selling points of a game are 1) Your game has to look good and 2) your game has to BE good (Well Programmed) So thats why in my honest opinion this is the most focused area in development.

I think that may be unfortunately true for some of us non musicals, But its great when you do find a nice piece to fit your game.

I always find artists games are extremely brushed up and "pretty" as one may say. I hear your other game was lovely to beta test, Good luck on it!

I mainly do all at once :)

But maybe I tend focus a little more on UI and usability.

  • EatingMyHatEatingMyHat Member Posts: 1,246
    Playability and replayability...

Once I got that one almost figured out, I can start with the rest. There is no amount of Art, Music, Development or marketing that can save a boring game.
