Walkthrough tutorials (Actually using GS - step by step)

Hello, all!

I've gone through the GS cookbook, but wondered if there was any walkthrough tutorials, that actually use GS, step by step, using source file examples.

I found a couple on youtube by 'Gendaigames' but I can't seem to find the source files to them. They were made in 2009 as well, so I'm presuming there have been a few changes made to GS since then?

Apologies in advance if I am being completely blind here!

All the best,

D

    Excellent, Thankyou Jamie!

Expect me to be nagging in your earhole sometime soon, ha ha.

@ Creative apps: Great website. Thanks for the heads-up :)

That should be enough to get me on my way. Cheers, guys!

I've done the first one, Jamie (my first ever go at using GS!) and it was brilliant.

Well written. Great pace. Simple to use. Fun, AND educational.

Going onto the second one now. Thankyou, again :)

Even though there are no source files it's a pretty simple demo and the platform you can just make with an actor and just grab or make a circle for the ball and make one for the coins and skip the animation part as it isn't needed to complete the tutorial.

Find Tshirtbooth video on gshelper.com with details of attributes..:)
+1 I would definitely go to his YouTube channel as well. You will find a ton of great stuff there.

    Cheers

Hi, was this about my animation tutorial?
Even though there are no source files it's a pretty simple demo and the platform you can just make with an actor and just grab or make a circle for the ball and make one for the coins and skip the animation part as it isn't needed to complete the tutorial.
The source files are linked at the bottom of the tutorial, there is both the Gamesalad source file and the individual graphics used in the tutorial packed into one zip file.

@Dmanlamius I'm glad your finding them helpful and thanks for the feedback, I'm always open to suggestions.

    Thanks

Halfway through the second one as we speak.

Really has broken it all apart, piece by piece for me, and as I said, has great pace. I was really worried about learning this (I'm old) and thought it would be beyond me.

I haven't got stuck once yet, as its all explained so well.

I like the way the coin animation is wrong, as you drag it in, but you suggest playing with the animation to get it looking good. Nice and subtle bit of interactivity.

So far, 10/10. I'll get back to you once I've finished.

Finished it and enjoyed it, Jamie! I'd recommend it to anyone.

Thankyou, Tshirtbooth. I'll go through each one, one by one. Really looking forward to learning more, so thank you for making them for newbies like myself!

Phew, that was hard work Tshirtbooth!

Can I be 100% honest? I just want to mention this in a positive way, not a negative.

As a complete noobie, the Boggle tutorial was a little over my head. I managed to follow along having done the cookbook and Jamies tutorials, but there was points where I got completely lost, and had to keep on re-winding the video, and pausing. I couldn't really see the text that well, and what was written when making the video bigger, and trying to see. Thats a youtube thing, and not anything to do with you.

It all moved pretty quickly. I can see the benefit of the series once you know a bit more about GS, but I think it may be a little harder for complete noobs. I got stuck in a place (letters wouldn't show up), re-started the whole thing again, only to find the letters said something like 'Invalid". No idea why, and have no idea what may have gone wrong.

What I liked about Jamies written tutorial is that it was written, and went through things one by one.

I also teach on youtube, and I know how painful it can be to literally go through each process slowly, and explain why you're going through that process. It sends you mad.

As I said, this isn't a negative. I just feel there is a slight gap between the Cookbook, Jamies tutorial, and the Boggle one. Im looking forward to going through it again, once I've brushed up my knowledge!

I see you have TONS of other material as well! Really, really looking forward to going through it all, and thanks for being such a great source :)

@Kris, I agree with you about the Boggle tutorial. tshirtbooth is a really good teacher and the Boggle tutorial is really well done (as is all of his stuff), but it's over my head, too, lol. I mean - I get what's happening, in theory, but it moves so fast it's hard to keep up.

I haven't seen Jamie's, but I am definitely going to get in to those. I'm happy to hear they're a little more suited for such an extreme newbie as me. I'm slogging along, but boy is it a grind :)
