iPad usability testing for kids?

hi...just working on our first ipad app for kids, and it occurred to me to do a little observational research. So we built a bunch of full size ipads (from cardboard) with screen graphics and let the kids at em....they mocked played...we could really see that the iPad is hard to hold with one hand and playability is different than the iPhone. And the device is not really as intimate.

kids can hold an iphone and have a couple of outer buttons to control things, or play one handed...on the iPad it is a stretch....their hands are small.....they finally ended up putting them on the floor to play... (file at link below to make one)

    That was a great idea. So are your findings changing anything you are doing for your first app?

    Yes I think the biggest issue will be just the plain UI, and logic behind playing. Some kids apps are auto-start (as not all can read). Obviously with the larger screen there is more room to design in a confusing interface, rules or navigation.
