Resolution Independence Question

Hey Everyone,
I have a question regarding resolution independence. Up until now, I have just ignored the resolution independence button. Instead, I have just imported 960px by 640px images into Gamesalad for background images and then scaled them down in the creator to 480px by 320px. For "button" and character images, I have just made them a lot larger and scaled them down as well. I have a retina device and through Adhoc testing and downloading the actual app from the App Store once it was published and approved, the graphics look great, very crisp and of retina quality. I never really tough much of it until now being the graphics looked great and there were not any issues. The reason that I am concerned now is because, I read that Apple will not feature your app if it does not have retina graphics. My question is, Can I keep doing what I am doing and then just check the resolution independence button being I am always making larger images and scaling them down or is there a special way that you have to do resolution independence.

The resolution independence button is used only to create lower res images to be used with older gen devices but append "@2x" to the higher definition ones. If Apple uses that to check retina apps then you may have a problem.
