Character won't stop when hitting a wall (im using windows version)

So i tried using the collision attribute, i make the velocity=0 when the character collides with the wall.
However, when I move the character towards the wall, it will just pass through the wall.
How do I fix this?

    Collide should work tell us more about what you have going on?

    im trying to create a 2d puzzle where the character can move up, down, left, right to get to the designated point(the player will give the command which direction to move to). There will be blocks/wall in the scene and when the character hits the wall, I want it to stop and then the player can just move to another direction. However, when I use collide, the character passes through the block instead of stopping. (imagine the game bomberman, the scene will be similar, except this is a puzzle game not action game)

    the windows version of gamesalad is very buggy/glitchy, my windows version wont even load the preview, so i cant even test my game, it kinda sucks
