New to GS, but not new to making games...

I've made several pencil/paper/dice games over the years, but never anything in the form of an app. But I like the idea, and I'm very happy that GS is a wysiwyg tool, seeing as I have no programming experience. About me, I'm a 40yo college freshman (lost a really good job to outsourcing & never recovered), and a father to triplet daughters. I'm hoping I can turn some of my old-school games into old-school style apps & make some money to put these kids through college themselves one day!
My first attempt will be a solo dungeon-crawl, ccg style. I originally made it back in '07, but I was very disappointed to find that the cost to have it printed meant it would never sell. But now if I can make it into an app with GS, cost shouldn't be a problem (I hope...is there anything I don't know about yet??).

Also, if you don't know already, you can find tons of video at this website: www.gshelper.com
To answer your question about expenses, all you need is a Apple developer license which cost $100 a year. You can publish with GameSalad for free, and if you want, go PRO which has many awesome features.
Again, welcome and good luck!

Darren.
1st play around with the GS Creator … open and click each button/tab and see what happens
this will give you an idea of how to use things
EX: you can add actors by + in Inspector actorPane … or + in Home: actors …
or drag an image into that Home: Actors section or the sceneEditor
(but we usually import images via Library: Images
… then drag to or changeBehaviors in an actor)
whatever way you try to do something … Game Salad will try to get that done for you!
2nd do some of the gettingStarted tutorials in Cookbook … (link at top of page)
3rd download the Manual:
http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/45683/the-official-gamesalad-manual-now-available#latest
and, while doing the above …
try putting things you want in a project and getting them to work
(doesn't have to be your actual project … just a sandbox to try different things)
4th watch videos … and pause them to try out what they show you
after you are comfortable with the basics …
then it is sometimes best to focus on what you want to create … like your ccg
and learn the skills you need … to do that project
always, it is best to focus on one aspect/element at a time!
learning isn't hard … but can be overwhelming … so focus on specific skills is important
Enjoy yourself! playing games is fun; making games can also be fun.

There are a bunch of videos on how to various things (platformer control, spawning numbers in random order, etc.) on youtube.
Best of luck
I used to make CCG/Board games back in my 20s (1920s I think!) so very excited to see what you come up with APP wise
How're you finding it all?
