CPU usage on Mac

Hi Guys,

Gamesalad is running at anywhere between 30 to 120% CPU usage. I'm running 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo with 8gb of ram.

This is issue is really slowing me down. Does anyone else have the same issue or a fix?

Depending on how much you are using it or how consistently with other stuff sometimes you will need to close and reopen GameSalad. It is very processor heavy but is much better than it has been in years past when we had to restart GS every 10 min or so.

There must be a major bug in the GS. This is ridiculous to be honest! Even when I'm not doing anything in Gamesalad, not even in preview mode the CPU is going all over the place. This should not happen.

CPU usage with all apps running is sitting at 7% (Outlook, Mail, Chrome, Skype, Preview and evernote)

CPU with Gamesalad, minimum 30% then up to 120%. What the??

This was an awesome app but to have to open and close every 10 minutes or whatever is pretty bad. Maybe time to look at alternatives.

OMG calm down. Its not every 10 minutes anymore. Its just every once in a while. I only restart GS maybe twice in a full day of use anymore. It used to be way worse.

Please don't be the next Im going somewhere else cause GameSalad sucks troll. Just go if your not happy. We don't need to hear your inflated complaints.

Even with restarting a couple times a day I can still make a good game way faster than any other SDK out there.

I love the platform and it has some great features and is very quick to develop in however this issue however is really slowing me down. Things like dragging actors into a screen, resizing images etc are getting to the point of being painful. The app is becoming laggy and slow and unresponsive.

At the moment I am restarting the app about three times an hour on average about every 15 to 20 minutes. For one of my bigger apps (one massive ebook), its about once every 7 to 10 minutes.

I do not understand that if the app is sitting there in the background (not in preview) why the CPU for GS is bouncing around all over the place. Surely if they tracked down what was causing that issue would lead them to the resolution.

Does anyone actually have a solution other than "suck it up this is great"?

Also i have this problem @Imsdle i have an intel core i5 and for me when i have a project over 50 mb it is very difficult ot work with it.
When I click preview on my iPad the CPU usage is over the 100%

I'm getting closer to nutting this out... I have a 13.3 Mac Book Pro as I travel a lot. I run a Dell external monitor when I'm in the office which works sweet at a resolution of 1920 x 1200.

When I have GS open using this monitor I have the most issue and my CPU goes off the chart.

It's not your system. I have basically the fastest iMac that you can buy:

    3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    16 GB RAM
    SSD Drive
    6970M w/2GB

Even on this system, if I am working with a large project and opening and closing actors that have a lot of rules or opening anything that has long lists of attributes, it causes GS to slow down over time. A quick Command-Q and reloading of GS fixes the problem, as already noted.

Yes, GS should fix this, but this isn't the worst bug out there right now.

    My solution is simple.

I run Mail, Skype, Safari, music, everything that i need on iPad when i'm using the Gamesalad on Mac.

Now my Gamesalad is running slow like it has a delay and in viewer now takes 2 or 3 clicks just to make a button work and even when just typing theres a delay also notice delay in sound or cracking, All was fine yesterday had just installed android SDK and all worked fine even worked on game but started it all up today and can't really work on anything.

CPU usage is only 2-5% game only 5 megs hmm, something has changed but don't know what.

Ok it is the Android SDK that is slowing me down I just tested by renaming the SDK folder to SDKno so it would not see it and Gamesalad started working fast again named it back slowed back down to a crawl so something in there is causing my problem anyway.

You should try to optimize your game to eliminate the slow down entirely. I made a list of things you should try here: http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/46652/31-optimization-tips#latest

Actually my games run fine but will surely look at that to optimize all I can, Its Gamesalad itself that was slowing down after I installed the Android SDK but like I said above its all running fine now by just renaming Android SDK folder to something else while I work on games.
Unless someone knows why Gamesald does not like my Android SDK folder?

Did you find a solution to this issue? Im having exactly the same problem after i installed android SDK,,,, If i rename the SDK folder it runs fine

    Any ideas?

I have this issue on i5 dual core mac mini with 8 GB RAM. I have to open/close maybe once or twice after a full 10 hour day of use. Not a huge deal to me, but it would of course be nice for a fix to come out.

It seems like it could be a memory leak, but I'm no expert.

I think its a different issue. As soon as i load gamesalad and create a fresh project the CPU goes to 120% and makes it unusable.

This only started after i install android sdk. If i close gamesalad > rename sdk install folder > reopen gamesalad it works fine...

But i need android sdk because im about to publish to android :P

Guys, the Android SDK folder trick works because now that you have the SDK installed, there's a process call adb (Android Developer Bridge) that runs all the time, for some reason - that's what's killing your system. If you have trouble, check Activity Monitor, you'll probably find adb running, kill it, and you will kill your trouble.
Obviously, renaming the SDK folder is the best trick, I just wish I knew about it last year before I remade all kinds of user accounts and reinstalled OS X a couple of times before I realised that it was all adb's fault!

I did have Android folder renamed but I just changed it back to see how it would run now because I've not published to Android in awhile so booted up a project in Gamesalad and all seems to run just fine. But I did upgrade my Mac Mini to Mountain lion and 8gb of ram could have made the difference for me.
