Whats the Best Way to Implement This?

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking of ways to implement this way to release an actor, how fast it runs off a cliff, and at what angle it jumps/dives. An example of this system would be Madden, if you ever played, and saw the field goal/kick off, you'd know what I'm saying. For those of you who don't, below is one of the many looks of it.

I want this in my game, but I can't really figure out how to have one that is circle like that, that will fill up and be empty until the user taps it, and not only that, but to control speed and rotation. Its not that I don't understand how to give the actor a set rotation, etc.. its just I can't quite grasp how to have it go up and down, changing the number until the user taps it, and then do it again for another rule.

I know it probably sounds confusing, and I don't make much sense, but let me put it this way. I want what you see above in my game to control how fast the actor runs off a cliff and what angle he will jump. So, of course, sometimes you want the actor fast and high, so the user will have to tap it at the right time, etc.

To see this in action in Madden, click the following link and navigate to 0:17 seconds into the video:

Again, any help is appreciated, I think you for taking the time to read this, have a great day!!

Matt

    @RThurman - Wow, thank you x100 - looks exactly like what I needed. If I have any more questions regarding it - could you help? Do you have a Skype?

    @Philie
    Glad that this will work for you!
    Another way to do it (which it looks like they do in the video) is to have a series of 20 images and just change the image when the power setting changes. GameSalad should be able to handle the animation fairly smoothly.

    Sorry, I don't do Skype much, nor Twitter or anything like that. (I guess I'm old school.). I prefer to do things on the forum so that others can learn from the conversation.
