having an app crash but only on 3gs. So bizarre any ideas?!

Hi everyone,

So i have this game that i've made and it runs fine on android, iphone 4 and 4s.. but for some reason this one particular actor (a spawning actor) when containing a spawn actor behavior.. it closes the app.. but if i remove that call on that actor.. its fine.. even if i spawn another actor its fine..

What i find really interesting and frustrating (i've made sooooo many permutations of this to try different solutions).. its as if the graphics are bad somehow.. but what is odd is the crash happens at the loading of the scene.. the events that trigger the actual event haven not occurred yet! its just a passive little actor/spawner waiting for the conditions to then spawn the actors..

Just wondering if anyone has seen this.. and if anyone has any suggestions.. i've replaced the graphic with a non-retina graphic to see if that mattered.. the app still misbehaves.. no matter what i try.. its just really bizarre.. even recreated new actors.. even removed the spawner and just had the first actor (lighting) just wait and listen for the condition then fade in and beging other stuff..

the weirdest thing is how the app crashes for having a spawn actor event that has yet to reach the condition to cause the apparently cursed lighting actor to spawn

Thanks!
Caleb

I have seen things occur on 3GS phones specifically and not on others (odd iAd behaviour) but nothing like this.
I highly recommend making sure the iOS version is current on the phone.

We are also getting to that time when you can forget 3GS and 3G iPhones.

yea the OS is current.. but yea its simple THE MOST bizarre crash i've ever seen. I've asked for help from GS folks to see if they can suggest something.. i've been trying to work around it many different ways.. its just bizarre and been a waste of almost a full day of development making version after version.. sure i could remove the problem, but i feel like i shouldn't have too.. i've never hit a wall like this.

also just for anyone who sees this, GS folks checked it out and i think what it is is a case of pushing the project to the memory limits of the 3gs.. which does make sense given how much art/animation is in there.. so i'm going to go in and gut some of the excessive stuff in there to see if that makes a difference.

Please let us know if the art purge had any effect.

yea it absolutely did. i went back and optimized some graphics that were pretty big (mainly just out of convenience) that kept the crash from happening. I just had too much stuff on the screen it turns out.. too much for 3gs, but not too much for the iphone 4 and better. Thanks again for all the feedback.
