Hey guys,

which total mb should I have or how much would be good for the iPad?
I only know it for the iPhone, there it is important to stay under 40mb...

thx

If you are designing games for all iPads, stay under 65mb.

To clarify, the limit is 50MB if you want your app downloadable straight onto the device. If you're not worried about that, the app size limit is something like 2GB.

    @gyroscope:

The game size is 5mb now, already 14 large levels done. I was talking about the mb the iPad needs when running the game...

    thx

    OK, you're talking about RAM - don't quote me on this but I think: iPad1 = 256mb, iPad2 = 512mb and iPad 3 = 1gb.

I have a max of 70mb ram when running the game.
@acceleratedGames told me to stay under 65? 256,512 or 1024 sound too much :D

    xD

I believe @AcceleratedGames thought you meant game file size as well- except 65 mb he mentioned there is too high if you want your users to download on their devices (as I say it's 50mb - no that long ago is was 20mb).

You needn't worry about RAM in the main; how many times will you have a level that's taking up 256mb? (Let alone 1gb on an iPad 3). :-)

The game size will be kept under 20mb, and that for iPad :)
We have now 80+ images and only 6mb for graphics.

Not? xD I thought it is important. Fraps are constant at 60+ and all working
    smooth :)

To clarify, I was talking about memory usage. When I discovered how to use Instruments to test the memory usage of my game, I tested Scribblenauts to get a baseline for games that have tons of images. The game crashed at 65mb of memory on the original iPad. That may seem low, but services are always running in the background that take up memory.

    Thanks for clarifying; my misunderstanding.

Despite "services" running in the background as you say, 65mb does still seem rather low to me... and I'm surprised there's no more headroom than that.

    Cheers for info.
