Hey there,
I have noticed that when running GS my CPU core temp rises to 76+ degrees Celsius.
I have installed SMC Fan controll (boosts fan rpm) but it doesnt seem to be able to keep up with GS and how hot it makes the macbook

Any suggestions or should I avoid using it on the macbook and stay on the imac?
Thanks

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I can fry eggs on my macbook after an hours worth of coding and testing (using built in viewer)

What version of MacBook are you using? I've never had such an issue on any of my MacBooks. Have you tried running GS only and see if it heats up. If you're running other apps at the same time, it may be something to do with your problem.

If this was an issue with GS, there would be lots of reports about this, but as there's not, I would assume there is something on your machine causing the issue.

hi i would suggest having a look at the activity monitor which is located inside utilities
folder which is in applications folder this may shed some light on to what is running to cause it to get so hot

Mine macbook also often spins coolers at fool speed when I'm using GS. But I thought it's normal.

    Ditto with my Mac Mini.

    Thanks guys for your feedback.
    - Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM
    - Activity monitor shows GS running at 80-100% CPU so I was sure it was GS
    - It has been happening for a while and have isolated it to previewing your code (ie GS internal viewer) May be something that my Mac is not handling well like some sort of video codec or something of that sort
    - The only other time I get higher CPU usage (and thereby higher temps) when using youtube so I believe it may be something related to Flash plugins possibly?? Shot in the dark

Does GS use flash when previewing?

Yeah mine heats up a little, but when it does like after 40 mins to 1 hour of work, I give my computer a break and start again in a little bit. The thing is with both photoshop and illustrator open, it doesn't heat up nearly as much.

GS has always been spinning my fans at max RPM after a while of usage. Activity monitor shows GS spinning 100% of the cpu cycles while doing nothing in the creator. Only solution is to restart GS. I have a 2009 MacBook Pro 17" (8GB Ram) This problem has persisted since GS v0.7x. GS is the only app that exhibits this behavior, every other app behaves well. It seems to happen when I flip between actors. The GS "history" seems to be the cause. CPU cycles start to get worse and worse until the app is useless and I need to restart it.

in my case macbook pro(2011) it just overheats when playing videogames e.g assasin creed, but i practically have it turn-on the whole day using gamesalad, illustrator and safari and no problem at all.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with the issue. I have a new iMac but its back home and am traveling now. Will check to see if the CPU speed stays at the 80-100% mark when using GS.
