Developing Games for Multiple Devices

I plan on releasing my next game for the iPhone, iPad, Android, Nook and Kindle. This is the first time I will be developing for multiple devices.
Those that have already developed for multiple devices, I would like to know what the best approach would be. For example, should I design the game for the iPad and scale down from there? I am trying to find the best way to go about this and streamline the developing process.
Also, are there any suggestions you might have, things you would have done differently or any other advice?

But you will need to tweek a little as some actor will look squeezed (balls for example).
