Images import but then do not appear

Hi all, this is my first time posting on the forums but I have been lurking in the background, watching the YouTube videos and reading other posts etc.

I seem to have a bug with GameSalad. I go into a scene and go to the images tab. Then I drag and drop an imge from the finder into this window and this should import the image for me to work with. However nothing happens - no image shows up.
I try and import it again following the same method and it tells me that this image already exists in the project. Therefore it seems to have imported but for some reason just does not appear.

Is there any way I can work with it if I can't see it here but I do know it's name?

PS - I've tried change attribute self.Image to "nameOfImage.png". The bit in quotes was added (with quotes) to the expression editor. Am I doing something wrong with this code as it doesn't pull up a picture either...

I made this mistakebefore: Make sure that you have the images list set to drop down. I reopened one of my games last week, and thought EVERYTHING was missing. Turned out, I just forgot to pull down the lists.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by make sure it's set to drop down. In that area I don't have any drop down boxes or changeable settings, as far as I know anyway. Still working out a lot of things!

Strangely I tried importing it again and when it said the file already exists I told it to replace the existing. Now it appeared without a problem! The first one must have glitched or something.

Thanks for the help anyway :)

http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/47468/crashing-when-adding-images-and-audio#latest yeah i just made a thread with this same problem, consider yourself lucky if it does not crash shortly after.

Yep it definitely crashed while doing this. Didn't crash right away but then shortly after when I was trying to find the image it went a bit insane and ended up maxing the CPU % for a good while :(

Had to manually force quit and start again. Luckily had saved recently!

I was under the impression that drag and drop functionality was a known bug for the current version. I've been using the + button to add images to the library.

Yep, for at least the past couple of years the drag and drop images system has been a little shaky, image sequences get scrambled, images import but don't appear, sometimes they appear but are blank, its the same deal for deleting images - it's a bit hit and miss - I'm often in the position of needing to delete an image sequence - highlight the images - hit delete and GS deletes a different bunch of images leaving the ones you wanted to delete still in the images panel . . . . but now they are blank . . . also when replacing an image sequence of (for instance 20 images) you drag your new sequence onto GS, it asks if you want it to replace the previous image sequence, you hit yes and it replaces just the first few (say just 4 images) although you don't find this out until you run your project . . plus other image handling weirdness . . . pretty random stuff.

I just don't delete images any more, which is a pain. I suppose when I get ready to publish my next app, I'll have to decide what to do since I don't want all those extra images in there. Maybe editing the package contents is the way to go.

I simply couldn't get away with not deleting images as I am using quite few long image sequences - after a few weeks of development I would end up with literally hundreds of images. It's a good idea to check the package contents now and then - a few times I've found stray PNGs that were deleted long ago and no longer appear in the project but still live in the images folder.

Like I said the image handling can be a little shaky, a little random, you really need to keep on top of it. I'm tempted say GS's file handling is like something from 1994, but if I'm being honest there was nothing as hit and miss as GS when it comes to basic image file handling even back then.

When this happens to me I noticed when I import again GS says would I like to rename the image which means the file is there so I always overwrite the file. Has anyone reported this bug or is support bugs still down?

Yep, I always overwrite the file even if it's not visible in the project, then quit, then reopen, most times this sorts things out.
