My app got rejected because GameSalad DisplayText

Help,

My app got rejected because I used GameSalad DisplayText

>We found the user interface of your app is not of sufficient quality to be appropriate for the App Store. Apps that provide a >poor user experience are not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

>Specifically, we noticed your app needs improved UI - the text is pixelated and blurry as seen in the attached screenshots.

I am using "Display Text" to display text from a table. The text is dynamic so I can't pre-build the image using Photoshop.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bob D

    @BobD

Woah, that's worrying for you, Bob (and for all of us)... just to check, this is using the Mac GSC? It's sounding like a bug to me, surely.... text from Display Text behaviour via a table not working as it should....

Sorry I can't suggest anything practical other than display your text without using tables for the while.... which I'm sure you won't want to do....

Interesting to see what other members say about this.....

Can't you make some custom font and add them in as images for now?

And you buttons are a little blurry, make sure they are @2x the actual size for clear images.

This has been an issue since I first arrived. It became more noticeable and upsetting to me when I started working on Simon And Mojo: Bath Time, which is text based and the display text behavior was used heavily. I am sorry to say this, but I'm glad your app was rejected for this reason so now it may become a priority to fix. Thanks for sharing the info with us.

I'll chime in an agree that text in GS has always had kind of a blurry look to it, regardless of font. Never thought an app would get rejected for it though.

Weird. <--- I before E except after C does NOT always work!

Yes the text rendering is not great - sometimes it looks like it duplicates the text and makes it look bold when it isn't.
This is a worrying development if true.
Looking at the screen capture shows the text to look like it is a lo-res graphic and nowhere near even the average quality of Display Text text?

I have to say @BobD the graphics look pretty rough in general, are you sure you are working to correct specs?

This is exactly what tshirtbooth said. IPhone 4 for two years on the market, and we still do not have the full support of retina displays. For example Retina tiles we got a couple of months ago, and the fonts and splash screen are still blurred :(

Hmmm when you download and resize that screen grab you can see the text size being used (font size) is VERY small! Something like 9 point in fact maybe less than that.

That is SMALL text and I would not use such as small size on an iPhone app. I am not surprised it looks bad. And I must say again are you absolutely sure this resolution independent??? It really does not look like it is.

@TheMoonwalls yes we need custom retina font so much!!

@LycetteBros that's right. Retina display is now on the world market for 2 years. We need that it's all retina support (splash screen, font, etc.). Now IF a new iphone is coming with a bigger screen we need that more! Please @GameSalad work on this!!!

@SaladStraightShooter - Why contact support? You did not know that "Display Text" does not support retina?

Hmmm there is no harm in having these things reported to Support.
If Apps start to get rejected because of the Display Text inadequacies then GS WILL have to make improvements, they have an implicit interest in fixing such issues.
So @Jugger you cannot lose in any case.

    They should fix it anyway...

he he this is interesting to know. I just submitted a primarily text based app, using mostly the display text behaviour. Kinda regretted it soon after submitting, and have now made hundreds of retina images with text instead. The fact that Android devices seem to only show sans serif font only with display text makes things worse.

@SaladStraightShooter - This problem for about 2 years, I thought you do not have time to fix it, but it turns out you just do not know. Did you know that the splash screen is blurred, too? Or send in a support, too?

I submitted bug report to GameSalad yesterday. In the interm I have switched the text color to "Black", Font to "Arial" and Font size to "13". It looks better and I will try to submit it again to Apple.

GS is well aware of this "lack of feature" (it's not a bug), myself and many other users has reported this issue to them lots of times in the past 2 years, the only reason I can think of for why they didn't implant it yet is due to some problems with the current LUA engine, if there wasnt a problem, believe me this feature was implanted a long time ago..
Anyway, hopefully this thread will speed things up ;)

On a personal note, I can understand the good intention of submitting a project file but seriously guys, make a new actor and drag over "display text" behavior to see the lack of retina in the text, it's much less of a hassle .

@P-O-M - as a line cook, you know better than anyone that there are a 1,001 ways a project - specific to a user - can dictate what the actual issue is, or what might be actually causing the problem.

Let's please drop the pushback about projects. If you don't want to help us help you, that's fine. But that slows the process way, way down.

When we ask for a project, please just send it. If you truly don't feel it necessary you can't really complain if we can't reproduce your issue.

    SSS,
Don't get me wrong I'm supporting your new methods of handeling things and it wasn't my intention to go against it. What I meant, and I also wrote it in my post, is that the lack of retina text is not a bug, it's a lack of feature, therefore i see no reason to send a bug report with a project file regarding this..
To me it like I say " I want Facebook integration so I send you guys a project to take a look at" , just sounded a weird thing to do from my point of view, that's all.

    Cheers
    Roy.

This is truly a happy ending for you @BobD! :)
Definitely making the font size bigger is a good idea.
