Upgrade to GS Pro without updating version?

Is this possible? I was set on buying GS Pro this week - does this mean I would have to upgrade to 0.10? I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard that I doubt can upgrade to Lion because its an old 2007 model that scrapes by running GS right now with some upgraded RAM.

I see, so what sort of specifications would be needed for Pro features?
Does requirement mean that the previous version will be forced to upgrade?
