I remember, as a kid, being excited when a new console would launch. I'd save up my money and I'd be ready for launch day. People would scramble for their new system but the supplies were usually limited. The Super Nes, the N64... going to the mall, seeing all the stores sold out... 9/9/99 Dreamcast launch, Sega's last system... or even more recently, waiting inside the Nintendo World store... online for my Wii.

But today, something amazing happened. I made a video game for a new console. The iPad is an amazing gaming machine. With GameSalad, I was able to take advantage of that.

I'm incredibly impressed. Id made a professional level game without having to learn a confusing programming language. And at $99, it was cheap too! Particle effects, positional sound... great stuff... click, click, drag that, type here, tweak a little... poof... impressive results!

It's not over yet. From the way I understand it, I'll have to submit an updated version of my game to Apple, once the new version of xcode is released. While I don't know if my project will ultimately be successful, at least I'm in the running.

Thank you Gendai Games. GameSalad is great!

Yeah, I agree this is an amazing opportunity they've given us. Gendai, you guys are pretty much my heroes :)

    @Photics

When you put it like that, makes me gutted I didn't try and make something for the iPad!

    Maybe next time, eh?

    QS :)

Edit - actually, I did *try* and make an iPad game, but the viewer only showed half the screen for testing...

I'm on a 12" Macbook - Anyone else have the same problem???

I had a problem with only seeing half the screen in preview mode, but you can just hit the play button from the scene window.

I had to look up the word gutted. I knew what it meant, but I had to be sure...

It wasn't my intention to make you feel bad. The process of creating an iPad game (before the deadline) was very stressful. I didn't know if Gendai Games would actually release an update, but I was working as if they were. I wrote that I would be ready regardless. I didn't want to be a liar.

Maybe it's not too late to enjoy the launch day festivities. I'm actually working on an iPad version of "Photics: Revsions - Course Correction" today. Maybe it too will be included at launch. It seems unlikely, but I'm planning to convert my game anyway.

At first I was frustrated with auto-rotate, but now I see how it can make my game more fun. Plus, with the iPad, wow... my space shooting game looks so much better. Instead of being crammed into a 320x480 space, there's a lot more room to play. I actually feel that I'm looking into space... almost getting lost in the screen.

    It's fun stuff! :)

    Oh, I'm sure!

If anyone's to blame it's me. I do find though that trying out a game from the scene window doesn't really work well for me :(

And I was on self imposed strike anyway thanks to certain issues!

I'm glad for those that put in the effort to get stuff ready in time - good luck to all of you :)
