Waypoints to create car AI

I made a working waypoint system for DRFT, and it works pretty good to the point where now, i don't have to worry about anyone trying to cheat in my game any more.

I figured that i would make three global attributes , one for each waypoint, and three actors that would be invisible, and also be triggers. when all three attributes are triggered, the lap number changes, and also you have to pass the waypoints in order.

so my question is, is it possible to create basic AI that has the opponent cars follow the waypoints, like having the AI accelerate to each waypoint? ( note that i would possibly need more waypoints to keep them orderly on the track.)
