Nintendo's upcoming Wii U seems like an interesting platform to develop for. It's browser supports HTML5. Also, Unity is jumping on board with full support. What are your thoughts on an eventual Gamesalad adaptation? See below news articles.

"Social and mobile games may come to Wii U — Unity announced this week it was partnering with Nintendo to provide a version of Unity that will work with the upcoming Wii U console. The agreement will let the 1.2 million developers using Unity bring both social and mobile titles to the Wii U."

Sorry, should have posted this as a discussion, not question.

I think it's a non issue GS has more important things to do. Like you said if you want to develop for console games use a program like unity. Which BTW I use and love.

If the browser supports HTML5 then GameSalad Arcade games hopefully already work with the Wii U. Although an export for the platform would be a nice feature. I think with the App Store the way it is now, any and all options for exporting to different platforms is a good idea. To me at least.

The installed base of Wii U is approximately... zero at this point while there are hundreds of millions of iOS devices (and Android) out there with a proven business model with the AppStore. If I were running things over at GameSalad my choice would be to put my development resources behind the platforms I already have in place -- In other words, make iOS even more amazing and then look at supporting other platforms later on.

Well, regardless of your opinion of the Wii U install base. To anyone that's serious about building business as a developer, it would be great to hear an official statement from Gamesalad about moving over to the console market. We as developers need as many opportunities as possible to sell our games. It's possible that the type of individual that buys a Wii U might also be interested in purchasing a game that you make on their favorite system. Whereas you might not do as well on iOS because that audience already had a certain game in mind for the system, and might not be interested in your Nintendo-like game.

People are migrating over to Unity in record #'s because it is a versatile multi-platform engine. Gamesalad is a great engine, and I've already made a significant time investment into it. It would be great to finally release some of our games on another platform that might be better suited for the types of games that we make.

HTLM5 is great and all, but if you are wanting to use it on a console, that kinda kills the whole idea of playing a game made for a console. You are playing web-based games on a console which is not really something new or exciting. It is a steady stream game limitations. I'd say focus on the hardware open top iOS. No one is getting on WiiU until Nintendo gets over themselves and sees the potential of brining all ranges of developers onto their console via store or otherwise. As stated above, their user base is really bad this go and what percentage of those are going to focus on smaller titles?

I speak to a lot of pro developers, including folks at NIntendo. You are perhaps missing an opportunity. You cannot expand a business by insisting that the industry should go one way and saying that's that, and Nintendo knows that now. That's how your company dies. You need to diversify, and try different things. I wouldn't be on here posting, if I didn't know a thing or two about the business. That said, you can run your business however you like. I will open my mind to all possibilities.

Yes, I would really like to publish games for Nintendo. I grew up playing their games, and therefore I would much rather make games for them than boring iOS and Android.

Gamesalad isn't even up to speed with full features for mobile devices yet and now you want the WII a dying platform? Even if the do that's a long way off more important things. If you want to make console games add unity to your development options.

Considering Scirra's Construct 2 can export to the Wii U with it's HTML5 engine, perhaps this wouldn't be the hardest thing for GameSalad to implement after all. I'd be all for it.
