Hey everyone, my latest app came out a couple of days ago and I was looking through App Annie yesterday and it said it was featured in itunes in 608 places:
Can't figure out how to upload a picture, so this is what it said:

Not featured on the iTunes Home Page

Featured in iTunes in 608 places

148 countriesGames > Adventure > All iPhone Apps
152 countriesGames > Adventure > Paid > See All
2 countriesGames > Adventure > Todas las apps de iPhone
1 countryGames > Adventure > Toutes les apps pour iPhone
1 countryGames > Adventure > Tutte le app per iPhone
148 countriesGames > Arcade > All iPhone Apps
152 countriesGames > Arcade > Paid > See All
2 countriesGames > Arcade > Todas las apps de iPhone
1 countryGames > Arcade > Toutes les apps pour iPhone
1 countryGames > Arcade > Tutte le app per iPhone)

I thought that I understood what this meant but when I checked sales today it didn't seem right. Can anyone explain what it exactly means?

hmmm, I not sure. Appannie is always a day behind so I would of expect the discrepancy to be the other way around. It maybe a time zone thing. I would give it a couple of days and see if the numbers start lining up.

I may have it all wrong, but thats how I believe it works.

Hey guys, Nick here, I work at App Annie on the Store Stats product.

The feature tracking is pretty complicated as there's 1000s of different places that your app can be featured. The best way to look at it is to compare between iTunes on your computer with what you see in Store Stats.

Eg for the Ebay app (http://www.appannie.com/app/ios/282614216/features/#date=2012-10-07)

You can compare what's listed in the featured listing with iTunes: http://i.imgur.com/qKujT.jpg

If you want to do this, you need to switch your iTunes location settings to the relevant country's store (bottom-right) and then browse to the right section in the store.

For the example above with Ebay, switch to Hong Kong, then click Apps in the top menu, then "Great Free Apps" in the right-side quick links area.

Feature tracking is updated once per day so depending on what time you check the rankings might have changed.

Also, regarding lycettebros comment about us being hacked - that's false. We've never had any data loss or security breaches. We did have an issue in early August which resulted in some downtime for a couple of days, but it wasn't related to any "hacking" attempts.

Anyway, if you've got any questions, just reply or shoot me an email nick AT appannie.com

    Cheers
    Nick

When appannie says "Featured in iTunes" it means that it is listed in the app store in that country, in that position, due to downloads.

If you were to expand "152 countries Games > Adventure > Paid > See All"
it would show a list of countries, for example:

    USA 12
    Canada 59
    etc

if you are in the US and went to the app store on your phone and looked under Games > Adventure > Paid it would be at number 12
if you are in the US and went to the app store on your phone and looked under Games > Adventure > Paid it would be at number 59

    etc

To be featured on the itunes page you have to be chosen by apple.

thank you so much for the quick response. I did expand it and see the countries and numbers also. At first I did think that that's what it meant (that if you did games>adventure>paid> and it would be 12) but when I checked sales today it didn't seem right. iTunesConnect said that I only had about like 5 sales for this particular app but I would have expected more from what AppAnnie said. Any thoughts?

I stopped using AppAnnie when they did the big redesign and then it got hacked - I lost faith.

Oh that doesn't sound good. I hardly use AppAnnie anyway though, only sometimes.
