I am not your target group or do not dare to say this out loud ;)

But the game is well made looking from the vids. I'll recommend it to my cousins.

By the way, in case anyone is interested, I've just upgraded to GameSalad Pro (yay!) so I'm hoping to monetize through PlayHaven ads and iAP. I won't know much for a while i suspect, but I can let you know how things work out with this model once I get some more info.

Looks good @Asobu_Games. I love the graphic quality!

One thing to consider it is a personal moral issue that is being raised about games that encourage multiple inApp purchases from very young children - some think it is possibly exploitative or at least negative. The other thing is including simulated gambling machines in apps for Kids...it also raises valid questions.
These are just observations I am making as I am hearing more chat about these issues with Child based apps. I am no preacher - I have made a game with a simulated gambling machine (although it is not related to purchases). In many ways your visuals are stimulating these concerns I am having...you can discount them as you wish. :)

Hmmm some great points, thanks for the comment! I actually thought a whole lot about this topic myself. First of all I just wanted to say that the target market isn't quite as young as the screenshots might make it look. I would say the target is perhaps 12 years and up, but I also know lots of teen/adult girls who are enjoying this game. In fact so far it seems most popular with 20-something girls. Also, I put 'mild simulated gambling' in the description for a 12+ rating. So hopefully some parents will take this into consideration. Of course I understand that some parents won't pay attention to this.

The reason for introducing iAP was certainly not to scam kids into gambling or spending all their parents money. It's more that in my experience the old 'charge 99c for your app' wasn't getting ANY results so I'm experimenting with the free-to-play model that seems to be so popular these days.

I certainly tried to make the iAP fairly subtle and optional. I didn't want to make it so that people are forced to pay money to keep playing. You can earn money by playing minigames, the iAP is really just if anyone wants to skip the whole process and buy all the clothes items straight away.

One last point. I actually purposely made the pachinko game to have a very high payout rate. I believe it actually returns more than 100% on average over time, so it's certainly not designed to be a money sink. :) In any one session you may lose, but I think you win more often than lose.

Yep your point about age group is valid. The iAP is also more generous and avoiding any exploitive nature I think.

Gambling machines visually are a complicated issue. Pachinko culturally is probably very passive and accepted in Japan. In some Western countries simulating gambling to young people is seen as socially irresponsible and is attempting to condition them for a future life of gambling (no matter the % of payout rates). Clearly that is not your intent and many games have embraced this idea and probably negates the voices of concern but parents may have some concern about it.
It is interesting and you clearly are aware of this stuff! :)

I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on this subject. Of course it's all pretty new to me so I'm trying to tread carefully. I certainly don't want to upset anyone or create future problem gamblers.

I think if I do any future games with gambling themes I'll probably make the style a little more 'mature' to avoid any potential issues. Thanks for discussing! :) Oh and thanks for the compliment on the graphics. :D

My pleasure @Asobu_Games. It is always worth discussing these things as your audience can vary so much and these kind of things can impact on their reaction to your App. I too have had to consider what I'd do the next time after using a Fruit machine in my game: SteamPilot.

There was a recent TV report here in Australia with parents being so concerned about inApp purchase ability in games as their children were clocking up $100's in credit card charges buying stuff in games.
I know it is laughable to ban iAp stuff but they were calling for it!

Oh nice I'm in Australia too! :) Are you on twitter?

Yes, we have no shortage of complaining parents here! On the one hand us developers need to take some responsibility in making everything clear and not using sneaky tactics etc, but in the end those parents should probably be supervising their kids' activity. They are the ones who let their children have access to a device with the ability to make transactions on their credit card! ;p It's the R18+ debate all over again. Just supervise your kids!

Wollongong actually! But close enough to Sydney I guess, so I've tacked myself on to their dev scene! :) Good to see some fellow Aussies using GameSalad.

Hey, just a quick update on Pocket Sweetie. I thought I'd post some stats for anyone else who might be considering going down the 'free-to-play' route. Keep in mind I won't know about the success of Playhaven for a few months.

I'm not sure if these numbers are any good, but I'm up to about 1,600 downloads in 2 weeks. I was getting 200+ a day for the first few days but seem to have levelled out around 100-120 per day. iAP has been pretty good, I'm getting multiple purchases each day. Best day was about $20 of iAP, most days are $5-$10. This is better than my paid (99c) apps have done in the past.

Also I just got mentioned in Kotaku's 'App Deals' section! :) Unfortunately it seems to be a hugely busy day so I'll probably get lost in that list. Oh well, better than nothing I guess, hopefully I'll still get a few extra downloads out of it.
