Indeed. Driving around here is atrocious. If you've ever seen the movie Death Race 2000, it's a lot like that. People are generally nice, until they get behind the wheel.
The person that holds the door open for you and says "Good day!" at the store, is the same person that will run you over in the parking lot for taking the parking space they wanted.
I lived in Miami Beach for 2 years while attending advertising school. I kid you not... 3 students, all in separate incidences - were struck by cars while crossing the street. One was left in a coma but came out of it a couple of months later. Drivers are crazy there. It's not always fun being a pedestrian, especially when crossing the street.
Grew up around Houston myself. My dad was a police officer there for most of his career. Important tip: Be ready for some of the craziest drivers on earth.
Realistically though, if you're from Miami Beach you're probably used to that type of driving.

Don't worry about missing out on the hurricanes over there in Florida. They come this way a lot, too. Maybe we can throw a party for the next one!
