Feedback on icon

So we're approaching the final stages of our game build and I've been playing around with some icon designs.

Without any information about the game other than it will be called Greedy Footballer (because in the app store, that's the first impression), what do you think of the following icon design:

It views well from the small size, but I would make him look more greedy and excited. He looks pensive in that pose. Like maybe an open mouth looking like he's yelling, which for me as a customer, I would interpret more as competitiveness.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how to make him look greedy without making him look too competitive!

I might add some money in the background (the game is about grabbing money) but am worried it'd get too cluttered and wouldn't work at a smaller size.

    HMMM

I would include a) a big pile of cash he's holding close to his chest, b) some tattoos on the guys arms, c) turn the eyebrows down to make him look more aggressive and d) enhance the shadows on the chin, neck and arms (as they are too thin right now when scaled down).

I would also lose the texture in the frame as it's not visible when scaled down and just goes messy. A lighter glow in the centre of the 'grassy' background would help the character to stand out and break up the even intensity of the background, frame and outline of the character.

@spriteattack - thanks, that's awesome feedback! I hadn't even considered a glow to make the character 'pop' more.

I'll work on a revised version this weekend and share the results :-)

    Thanks again everyone, very useful!

Yes I agree with @SpriteAttack. And use brightness and shining in the overall icon designing.
