I'm looking into finally getting an Android device for testing.

Any tips on a Cheap Android phone for testing?

I've seen the odd Wildfire phone on ebay for £50.00

Any idea what's the current cheap device to get...

Thanks

you really should get either the lg nexus or the galaxy nexus. They get quick updates like iphones and the lg one has same specs as the s3 and iphone 5 yet half the price

I'm also wondering. I'm 16 and don't have too much to spend, but I can probably get a little helping hand from my parents. My current Android phone is outdated and runs my game about 10-15fps, since I was a fairly early adopter of the OS and got it when it first came out. Any suggestions to devices that are cost-effective? Max I'm willing to go is probably 350$ USD.

I just bought a HTC Wildfire S for $45 at Cash Converters. I installed the Android viewer, but it won't run any of my games. I made a test app that just has a Display Text actor in the middle of the screen. Doesn't even load up. Just resets the viewer.

What's up with that? Anyone know a fix?

Works OK on my HTC Desire HD.

Is there a way to know which Android devices are supported by the viewer, and which are not?

    Shouldn't it work on everything?

Are the particular elements in a project that stop it running on specific devices? (Scene size too large, or something??)

@Hymloe do they have Cash Converters in other places than A&NZ - hehe - funny to hear that on here. And also testing - if I was broke I would be getting a mate to come over so I could use his phone. If I have a little bit of money get the handset that is last years. Not much older. Should be all good :) SII or SIII.

Yeah, I wanted to get a low end device that I could use as my personal benchmark for the lowest device I would support. It also has a different screen resolution and aspect ratio to my Desire HD. It'd be nice to also get a high end phone or tablet. That way, I have a reasonable (minimal) spectrum of Android testing devices.

The Wildfire S has a 600MHz processor, 512MB RAM (418MB user-usable), and a 320x480 screen. So it's really not that bad as a phone. It's actually very responsive to use, and looks quite nice. It's running Android 2.3.3.

But I haven't been able to get my Game Salad projects to run on it through the Viewer.

I've tried it on Nightly Build 0052, and the latest Nightly Build 0075. It just crashes (apparently without even really trying to load), and the Viewer immediately says "Starting Up" again.

    Any ideas, @BlackCloakGS?

PS: I visited the Cash Converters in Christchurch while I was there! A highlight of my NZ trip. "-) Hehe.

I've reported a Bug, and written to Support to ask for help getting the Android GS Viewer working on my HTC Wildfire S.

I'd still appreciate any quick answers or advice here. Thanks! :)
