How does the ipad app naming system work, is it a case of just adding HD on the end?

If I already have iphone apps out does that guarantee me the iPad equivalent name or is it a free for all?

Hopefully there would be some auto-checking for name use or arbitration after the fact.

I'm assuming all existing iPhone app names are considered taken in the iPad arena and thusly why folks are adding the (somewhat misleading) "HD" to the end.

I doubt Apple would leave a bit headache open for any dev to claim any name in the iPad arena.

So when I make an ipad version of my iphone app, do I have to add HD on the end or can I call it the same?

I know I am not doing HD app names at all....

I think most are adding "HD" since that is what the big studios are doing.

You could try to call it the same as your iPhone app. Go ahead and try it in iTunesConnect and see if it give you an error. I'm assuming since you can have universal binaries, that indeed the app namespace is the same between the two devices, so I'm guessing you will get an error that the name is already taken. I think you will see iPad options and screenshot entry slots in your current games too. I thought I saw dual slots for iPhone/Touch size images and iPad size images.

Some of this is speculation though. ;-)

@guru: so have you been able to re-use your iPhone/Touch app names for iPad apps?

    Here's what I learned...

You can't reuse the same name.
Do not put the word "iPad" in the name!
