Questions Regarding Publishing

I read in a post the other day that when you use gamesalad and publish your title to the app store, that it is no longer your game. Is this true? I have not upgraded my membership yet because i'm still working on art assets and trying to decide if this is the engine I want. I want to be able to port my games to different mobile platforms once completed, so i'd hate to think that my game is bound to one format.
