Copyright next to game name

Wanted to get an idea of what people are doing in terms of naming their game and copyright issues?

Do you have to go through getting the copyright for the name of your game?

How do people usually proceed with this matter? :)

Names are actually not copyrightable -- See for example http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-protect.html . With possible exceptions if the name itself could be considered a literary work. :)

You're thinking of trademarks. It's kind of a fuzzy area -- you don't have to register a trademark just to attach a name to your game, nor do you unequivocally "own" a name the moment you register a trademark. But of course you should do some research and make sure there's no other game out there using the same name.

    (EDIT: See also http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/tac/doc/basic/register.htm)

Needless to say, all of the above is for informational purposes only and should not be construed as legal advice.
