Don't leave a comment just vote! That way its anonymous.

He never has anything nice to say and his last post is the last straw!

This is what he said:

"forum police! pull over!"

I am really tired of not finding useful info on the forums because of the mass of lately arriving newbs, who open up tens of useless treads about the same crap, nobody is interested in and the lack of forum moderation.

I don't care about your game announcement and your promo codes either. I even care less about you being able to buy an ipad. I also don't want to read about your cat, dog and your child.

I want to use this forum for game development, programing, problems and their solutions etc.

Announce your crap elsewhere. I am happy for you, you managed it, but I just don't care.

Personally I have not had any issues with him. He had commented on some of my posts and he seemed very civil.

I know I don't post much, but I think everyone just needs to take everything with a grain of salt. Remember it's the internet there are always going to be people who try and push your buttons or touch screens (bad joke). Just remember they are just words and they cannot harm you. If you don't want to see him around then when ever you see his name and icon just don't read the post and pretend it is not even there.

I don't feel there is a need to ever ban someone from a forum unless they are just useless spammers.

Hope you don't leave T-shirt I know you have answered a few of my questions and I am thankful you are here to help out those who may be "noobs"

Hunn, you've grown on me lately! You're kind of like India Pale Ale - very bitter, but once you acquire a taste for it you love it!

I did really enjoy your answers to the recent get to know you survey. Atilla! LOL

I do wish you would just skip over the threads you disapprove of, but that would not be very Atilla like I guess...

tshirt ... we love you ... in a strictly heterosexual way ;) you are a key member in this community and are very highly looked up too, please stick around these forums, you provide so much useful help and info for all. All i can say is definitely within the last month these forums have certainly changed, there used to be so much help and good vibes, there was often praise for the community and its togetherness. I think as GameSalads popularity spreads there will be more negative influxes, as before, i felt people truly felt amazed using this product and everyone appreciated its in beta, and things do need sorting, but we are patiently waiting as they are always working hard to bring us great new features with each update.

I dont know if you realise how much you have helped people tshirt, you are on these forums most days offering advice, even making demo solutions for people, youtube tutorials etc. I guarantee you have helped most GS users at some point, even if they were just reading other peoples posts you have commented on. I certainly see you as one of the top 3 people on here and im sure a lot of people would agree with me on that. It'd be a shame to loose you over a few people who have an arrogance that makes them feel they can talk down to people or the software itself, as they expect better as they see their own level high (which is fine if they do). I mean it really is simple, if you dont have nothing nice to say, or at least be constructive when criticising then dont say it! With regards to the software, its in beta, its getting better with more features in every update, you all could, and should of tried the software for free so you should know what you were buying and what you can or cannot do!

    T-Shirt! T-Shirt! T-Shirt!

In all seriousness, I wouldn't have stuck with GS if not for T. Gendai ought to put him on the payroll. Please stick around!

@Hunn, you were being so nice (for Atilla anyways) for quite a while! What happened, man! I thought we had made some progress!

I feel dirty even piping in on this

I just think people take Hunn too seriously

I would be willing to bet if we were all sitting in the same room we would be laughing with him.

Some people just dont come across well in print

Sure he takes it too far sometimes but often says what we all think.

Although I'm not sure the specifics that pushed someone over the edge

he has a top game and a very cool website http://iphoneapp-promocodes.com

If you can get past his "sense of humor" there is some value in a lot of his posts too
  • synthesissynthesis Member Posts: 1,693
I think everyone on here is valuable. it is the blend of opinion that helps you shape/validate your own. T-Shirt...you and I spar often...and always it seems to be civil and sincere. You are a valuable member as is Hunn. You come from different parts of the world...so maybe the approach to conversation is different. Regardless...I think different opinions balance the entire discussion.

Hunn may be a bit abrasive at times...and often times may say things out loud what some of us are secretly thinking. regardless...if it seems offensive or perhaps too direct...then shut it out and move on as some of the other posts here suggest.

Both TSB and Hunn are what I would consider extremely skilled in the craft of game design. I think they can be a valuable asset to anyone reading either one of their posts...consistently.

Hunn may say something off the cuff...but he's Hungarian...I wouldn't expect anything less :)
And TSB...you're Canadian I understand...and Canadians don't do anything controversial :). But you guys did put on a good show in Vancouver!!! (Just kidding around here lightheartedly in case you didn't read it that way).

    Anyway...
Just read...learn...object...approve...converse...and soak in the entire spectrum of debate. Its a community. Some neighbors are annoying some are not...but regardless...they aren't moving so figure out a way to make the best of it and enjoy the sunshine!!! :)

    BTW:
@TSB...Just because somebody has not published a game yet doesn't mean anything. Some of us are not interested in pushing out 45 minute games. Some of us are looking to build deeper using more perhaps "sophisticated" logic. At least I am. Just because Hunn or I have not pushed out a game in the last 3 months doesn't mean we don't intend to. I have about 4 in the works...just none finished for release yet. Keyword..."Synergy!". So please back off on the "He hasn't published a game yet so he doesn't know what he is talking about" rhetoric. You used it twice tonight alone. Once at me...and now at Hunn.
  • scitunesscitunes Member, Sous Chef Posts: 4,047
Here's the thing, it is hard to hear someone say so forcefully that forums about your game release are crap after you have worked so hard on a game and are excited about it. It is also hard to take it from Hunn when there was a good week or more where the top forum post was a regular update (felt like every 10 minutes) of how much money he was making on the game he didn't make. Then someone else puts up an announcement about a game and now it is "crap"?

These forums used to be more about how do we help each other come up with solutions to problems. There has just been so much negativity in regards to the limitations of the software. I have no dev background at all - GS has changed my life. I guess ignorance is bliss as I have nothing to compare to. All I know is that I have a handful of games (some of them I am very proud of) and more on the way that I am very excited about. The fact that I can say that makes me a GS kool-aide drinking fanatic and proud to admit it!

I also look at the games that some people are making and feel that the limitations being complained about aren't stopping some people from making awesome games.

While I think Hunn is somewhat misunderstood based on probably a slight language issue and I believe he hails from where people are a bit more direct; however, what he said that was quoted above is pretty stupid, considering he posted this about a month ago:

    http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=4050#post-23963

A little self-policing could probably help a bit in his case. Given what is in that post (despite folks being interested) and then to say:

    `
I don't care about your game announcement and your promo codes either...

...Announce your crap elsewhere. I am happy for you, you managed it, but I just don't care.

    1) What drama did I miss?

    2) As for the quality of GameSalad games... I'm surprised at what I can make. I think that my games are pretty good. But unfortunately, I'm surprised at what my competition has created. Their games are better. Of course, I'm up against game development companies... teams of people, with resources in the millions of dollars.

    3) The success of GameSalad / Gendai Games depends on the success and quality of games made with GameSalad. The iPad adventure yielded dual results. On one side, there were a lot of GameSalad games at the top of the charts. But on the other side, it seems that the amount of work invested in these projects did not equal the reward.

    4) This community should stay friendly. Disrespect towards other members should not be permitted or tolerated.

I'm happy with Gendai Games and I still like this community.

I try not to ruffle too many feathers and have not had an issue with Hun. People are different and sometimes their differences cause them to go to war. People come hear for many reasons and putting people down should not be one of them. I would think if you run a site that gives out promo codes then you would be more than happy to hear anybody announce their games and codes. Wether or not i should vote somebody out of a forum is not up to me. I'm learning hear and trying to give back at the same time. If a topic bugs me I try to ignore it like a dumbass reviewer. And I'm sure we all have our days. I can understand where Tshirtbooth comes from on the You haven't made a game yet concept. Its always easier to boast your greatness and never prove it. However, I figure if you can provide information that helps then it's enough proof.
Personally I feel we all have something to offer and sometimes we get out of our robotness and get personal, hey we're only human.

+1 with Photics, i've been here since the beginning of beta (when it was just me,QS,JGary321, and butterbean) and to this day i still don't know that much about GS. without most of the community helping out, i would have never got any of my games done. this is a great community to make games in, and i hope the disrespect stops.
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
To be honest it has gotten pretty social around here. Seems to be more of a "work breakroom" than a forum anymore. I am certainly guilty. I blame the fact that this is my job and i always mingled with coworkers a lot... Hell my last job had a pool table and air hockey int he break room.

When you get social people piss on each others pastries...We are humans. Its gonna happen

Again I ramble... point is maybe that is why most forums have a "lounge"

I for one will make myself a little less present around here.
More help and in the words of "T"
    less jibber jabber

    :)

"To be honest it has gotten pretty social around here."

James, I don't think that is a bad thing at all. I find it a nice balancing factor and part of the personality of this group. Hun's remarks are just off base, as he knows darn well there are categories, like "announce your game." If he has a problem with that and the "social" stuff, he can just ignore those threads.

I hate to see people getting tired of this forum, but as GS grows, so is the community. We can start looking at each other as competitors, or friends, or even both... but I hope nobody drops out because of it.

Tshirt has, and will remain one of the most helpful and valuable members to this community. It would be a damn shame to see you go! You've helped all types from newbies to pros, and I know everyone really appreciates you!

As KTfright has said, I've been there from the beginning when it was just QS, KT, and JGary, so yes, it did have a warm and small town kinda' feel, but the community has grown now, with various people from various places, and you're bound to get a blend of personalities.

There are people on here who will make 45 minute games, and others who strive to make the next blockbuster.

I personally could care less if someone made a game in 1 day or 4 weeks. I've made games that have taken over 2 months to make, and others that took less than a week to make. It's all a part of experimenting with the market, and what works.

People should just be supportive, helpful, and respectful.

I guess if I spent more time in the forums, a person like Hunn might start to rub me the wrong way, but everything that's said on here, by anyone should be taken with a grain of salt.

We haven't all met in person, and something tells me if we did, and choose to be anonymous, it would be interesting if we could point out who is who (with the exception of the women which are outnumbered! Myself included!)
  • synthesissynthesis Member Posts: 1,693
    @ReBump
Hunn's post about Alpine Crawler was invaluable to me...It was the first chance to see what a top 10 appstore app's performance/sales numbers were. it was incredible information and I am glad he posted it.

As for others...I think they too should be able to post threads about new titles. That is why they have an "announce your game" section. The main problem is that this forum software is !@#$%. Sorry for the language but it is. You can't filter the content like most forum boards and subscribe to only stuff you are interested in. You have to sift through all the game/promotion announcements to get to the dev stuff.

    @ TSB
I hear what you are saying about the back stabbing on Apple. I agreed with you on that in the other thread. I was just suggesting that you not dog us for not being able to "relate" because we don't have a game out. We can relate. I've been backstabbed more than once. It sucks...I know. I felt the same way a week or so ago for not getting the update I needed from Gendai. You got the one you needed but I didn't. I complained "LOUDLY" about it and caught a lot of flack for that...from you and others. Now I've shitcanned my Bumper Derby project...at least until GS matures...and I pissed away 2 months of dev time...with no guarantee I will see anything from Gendai anytime soon. Who knows if BDX will see the light of day.

As for social versus Dev stuff...personally I'm tired of talking about iPad...but its the topic of the present generally and so be it. This forum seems to shift with the wind...which is nice...it keeps in interesting and fresh. So far I think pretty much everything is on topic...generally speaking...at least we aren't talking about NASCAR or POLITICS. YUCK!!!

    Anyway...
Keep it honest and keep it interesting. Debates like this one are healthy. Maybe we will all learn something...maybe even Hunn will too! :)

Boy is he going to be surprised when he logs in next time! :)
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
@Syn: I found his post valuable too but his raining on other's parades who want to share similar info is juvenile. Just because his buddies' app made some serious coin doesn't give him the right to sh@t all over others doing very similar things.

I'm out on this topic and I didn't vote but I think when I said a little self-policing would help sums up how I feel.

TSB: don't leave for good but I do respect the decision to be involved less...especially when your time is limited and you could be using it for your own financial betterment.
  • rdcuberdcube Member Posts: 361
    @TSB, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US!!!
Thanks to you I've been able to release my 'taptards'.
And thanks to the community, I've been able to learn bits and pieces to get better with GS.
Every time I release a new 'taptard' game, I learn and implement a new feature someone said or created a demo for.

Now that GS name is on the hands of a lot of people, we will continue to see A LOT of 'noob' posts.

I kinda agree with synthesis, I think Gendai should re-arrange the forum...I believe there used to be a 'yellow sticky' to vote for a forum board for us all to use and be easier to nagivate...I rarely saw any votes there.

I do agree hunn comes very direct, but I don't take it personal.

I don't take comments too personal because it only makes me grow.

I do agree that we should all be respectful and continue giving support to each other...even if it's another 'taptard' app....that's how a lot of the greats started...I still have 'Jewel Master'.
  • synthesissynthesis Member Posts: 1,693
'Taptard' apps can still be good. :)
I'm doing one right now...hopefully it will be a good one...but its still 'tarded'.

Just because one can classify it as 'taptard'...doesn't mean it can't make money.

He didn't specify in the post, but I think when he was talking about stopping with the announcements and promo codes, I am guessing he means in the "Working with GameSalad" forum when he wrote "this forum".

Yeah, there is an "Announce Your Game" which is made for that, and they should go there. There's no good reason to post it there and in "Working..." at the same time. Sure it gets the word out, but it's also bordering on spam.

That said, I don't know him nor can I speak for him. That's just how I read it.

Still, got to say things in a civil way. Name calling is a nasty habit.

EDIT: Removed the part about changing the forums... better I put it in Suggestions.

    LOL

    You guys are funny...
    My god...

Ok, let clear something, then I am off here.

    1. This forum is just crap. I only watch the recent topics below the yellow stickies and if you look at it, there is nothing else just useless chitchat.

    2. People don't search and read, just rush in, post their crap and are out, so I have to stomp through ten "i got my ipad" topics to find valuable info or real problems to try to help with. If you are so happy with your ipad, just look for an already existing topic and post there.

    3. This forum is not moderated and therefore totally messed up.

    4. I work in game development or at least somehow related to it since 2ooo and I have released apps on the appstore and I know, how it feels to announce a game or anything else. I don't say, you shouldn't announce it, I just say, don't make a new topic for every single crap.

    5. My topic about Alpine Crawler was not a "Yay I relased my crap" topic, but a topic about numbers and sales, so you can see, what it is like to be there. Tshirt, honestly, I feel, you are just jealous, and now you try to make me looking bad by turning around the facts. You suddenly try to blame me, I don't even made a game, but you saw my games, so you know, I have them. When I want to release them is not your concern. I will release them, when they are working as intended.

Long story short, all I want to say, this forum needs a better structure and moderation and people, who can play by the standard internet rules.

Until the forum stays the way it is, I won't spend my time on trying to find topics with real problems and infos. I had a few questions just going down without answers, because of the "Yay my crap" topics.

The forums on the net and their rules are not accidentally working, how they working. This place became a mess lately and not worth to look into. And if you think, I am the reason for all the mess, then I am sorry. Maybe it would be more interesting to actually READ my posts and UNDERSTAND and then THINK, why I wrote it. It's not like I attack random people with random things.

So, I am out. Kepp the mess going! Good luck!

I actually think that "WhyAreYouHere" should be banned for opening this post. HUNNENKOENIG has his own opinions that he shares with the forums.
If you don't want EVERYBODY'S opinion in your threads, just don't POST them!
I actually think although HUNNENKOENIG is not a great apple fan (as me) he is still a great member in the gamesalad forums.
  • design219design219 Member Posts: 2,273
I think a lot of this could be solved with the addition of volunteer moderators. Give them the power to move posts, and do a little basic policing, as it seems the GS head chefs are just too busy (as they should be) making improvements to the software.
