For those who have randomly had their Apps using PayHaven removed/rejected from the store due to the 'promoting games other than your own' clause, take solace in knowing one of the largest apps doing so has also been removed, AppShopper.

I personally think this is policy by Apple is awful and yet another reason why relying on one ecosystem is a long term losing proposition. Especially with how bad discoverability has been with the redesign to the App Store, it's sad to see Apple squash developers actually trying to make more of their platform. This means even a magazine writing reviews would be subjected to these terms, the work around is of course making a web app, but that's just one more layer of friction between you and an already fragile user base.

There's really not much to take away from this other than seeing how militant - and random - Apple can be.

Does this new term also affect FAAD and similar apps that promote limited time free apps?

It probably won't affect FAAD. That rule seems to be focused on things that really look like an app store. And that app certainly does.
