I think something like Adobe Edge Animate would be better than GameSalad's HTML5 offering. Last time I checked, GameSalad had the following problems...

1 - No code export, so the games are tied to GameSalad.com
    2 - GameSalad branding
    3 - Only one size 480x320
4 - Slow performance and can't use all of the GameSalad features
5 - GameSalad projects are a sandbox... not designed for communicating with a server.

GameSalad's HTML5 feature did not meet my requirements. This is unfortunate, as GameSalad had a great lead and I was looking for a good HTML5 solution. But now, Adobe Edge Animate is out of beta... and it's currently free. Other options are Hype and a Flash/Swiffy combo.

If you're looking for a quick and easy way to make games for mobile devices, GameSalad is a competitor in this area. But for web development, I don't think GameSalad is the right tool for the job - not right now anyway. Maybe it could improve, but I haven't seen much improvement to "Project Masala" in over a year.

  • No GameSalad is not for web development. It is a game development tool.
