You can publish a gamesalad file and then download the project file as a standalone Mac application for free. It's all part of the publishing process.

@ds1239 I don't believe so. After you click Publish in GameSalad Creator, you'll see some steps you need to take to configure the app, such as the app name, icon, etc. After you do that, you can generate the app and choose to Download the project (a standalone application). I actually don't remember if you need a valid provisioning profile to do this.

No. When you download the project, it downloads the application to your computer so that you can play it. What are you wanting to do with it?

I want to share it with people who don't have the gamesalad software, and for them to be able to download it as a normal executable program.

If you download the project from the publishing screen as a standalone application, you can then email it to other people (e.g. as a .zip file). They will be able to play it on a Mac.

If you intend to have them download it from the App Store for free or for a fee, you must complete the full Mac Publishing process, which is more involved.

I just went and opened a GameSalad template, clicked Publish, clicked Create New Game, clicked on Mac under Platforms in the sidebar, entered a display name, version, and fake bundle identifier, and clicked Generate App. After waiting a few minutes and then refreshing the page, I clicked Download Project and it downloaded a .zip that expands into an Application.

If you try those steps, and you still get a Gamemaker file, what is the filename extension on the Gamemaker file you're seeing?

It downloads as a .zip, but it keeps crashing when I open it.

Can you compress the gamesalad file into a .zip file and send me a link to it (e.g. via dropbox)? I'll see if it does the same on my computer.
