The makers of Sesame Street released a report on best practices for building children's apps. It's chock full of good tips about how kids use apps and how best to design for them.

If you're making children's apps, and missed it, it's worth the read.

For example, they found that in testing iPad use among young kids, the kids tended to rest their hands on the bottom corners of the iPads. Buttons (e.g. for settings, menus) that were located there were often pressed accidentally, which frustrated the kids playing the games.
