What happens if we don't add a splash screen when publishing?

I know this is a silly question, but what would happen? Does it cause an error. I know when I did an ad hoc build for iPhone, it seemed to be on a blank screen for a few seconds, but what about other platforms?

You know, I don't think it causes an error, I think the function of the splashscreen is fundamentally a cosmetic one - it gives a bit of polish and also minimizes the perceived annoyance (apparently Apple will sometimes hassle you a bit if your load times are more than a second or two) of waiting for a scene/menu to load. I don't think splashscreens need to be too elaborate, but they should look good. For my project I'm creating a simple splash screen to launch when my scene 'changes' (I'm trying to get the game to run on one scene but I may have to amend that). As it changes, the splash screen launches and basically hides everything in the background. The game still runs without the splash, but it essentially just LOOKS a bit better. More seasoned game makers on here will know far more about this though. But that's just my peanut gallery understanding of it so far.

Mars will explode. You know the astroid belt between Mars and Jupiter? Yeah. That's from the last time someone tried to upload a game without a splash screen.
