bugs, or me?

Hi Guys. Im all brand new to gamesalad. download it a few days ago, and went on seeing loads of tutorials. allthough the tutorials where for mac, i got a nice overview of the basic functions.

in my first project i wanted to add 2 background pictures to 2 scenes, but somthing is wrong, and i cant see it!

first of all it toke me quite some time figuring out how to add an actor to the scene, because when i dragged it, it was not visible. then i found out that the x and y positions was way of, and not at the location i dragged the actor. how can i do so that the actor stays where i drop it?

second question:

when dragging an actor to a scene it looks like this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/65867758/1.jpg

but in preview, it looks like this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/65867758/2.jpg

then when i move the picture down a bit like this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/65867758/3.jpg

the picture shows at the correct location like this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/65867758/4.jpg

- what is going on??

question 3:

in initial scene i placed the picture like this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/65867758/5.jpg

but in preview mode it shows like this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/65867758/6.jpg

why is that??

- i hope someone can help me on my way. i really see a lot of potential in this software :-) thanks!

all of your issues are because your scene is set too small.. your Scene should be no smaller than your road actor.. the First one does not appear because the center of the actor is FAR outside of the scenes boundries.. so it is being destroyed. the reason it shows up on the second example is because the street actor's center is within the scenes boundries..

your question 3 seems to have a constraint on your actor setting the y axis to 0 (puts the center of the actor to the southern most boundary of the scene)
  • the scene is set to iphone portrait (constrain resolution) so it should be 640 to 960? or?

3: when i change the axis values of the actor it changes around the screen to. however i dont see why "what i see" is not "what i get" in preview mode?

there are 5 sizes you need to be concerned with
    1. Scene Size (Scene tab) this is the size of your whole playing field.
    2. Game Size (Game tab) this should be the size for the device.
    3. Camera Size (Scene tab) this should normally be set to the same as the Game size.
    4. Camera Tracking Area (Scene tab) this is the boundry box your actor will be in if they have a "Control Camera" restraint.
    5. Camera Origin (Scene tab) this is the location where your camera will start.

Without seeing the attributes of your menu actor, it's hard to tell exactly what is causing your picture to slide. There are many times when the position on the 'stage' will be different than that of the preview. All of which have to do with constraints which you put on that actor.
  • yes i know that a lot can make the errors. however its weird that its wrong when doing so from an empty template, that i havent tampered with yet. i will look into the details you mention. thanks for your answars!

if anyone else has an idea of what i do wrong, please dont hesitate to answar :)

its all about the details.. I have only been using GS since November and it takes a minute to get used to some of the functions.. but once you learn them.. you have alot of "Duhh" moments.. :D

select your Menu screen actor (from question 3) Open the BackStage and select 'Prototype' and then make a screen capture.. maybe there is something you might not have seen
  • well after some fiddling around with the points you mentioned, it kinda works now :)

dont know what it was but ill keep looking for the future. thanks again!
