Hi.

I am having trouble with the Alpha function. I would like my Images to be visible and not the Actor color. However, my graphics are also fading with the alpha level. What might I be overlooking?

Thanks

    Hi @kaanuki

The alpha level is the opacity. So 0.5 alpha will be 50% opacity, or semi-transparent.

If you want your image to be colourless you can drag the dark/light slider in the colour panel. 0 will make the image black.

I'm not completely sure what are wanting to do? If you want a line image with no colour inside it you would have to import your image like that from your image editor - photoshop etc.

You question is a little confused, you seem to be mixing up lots of different concepts here . . . whether your image is visible or not is unrelated to the actor's colour.

If you want your images (more correctly 'actors') to be visible make sure their alpha channel is set to 1.
However, my graphics are also fading with the alpha level. What might I be overlooking?
Nothing as far as I can see, that's exactly how the alpha channel should work.

@HoneyTribeStudios @Socks Hey guys, I think he possibly means he's trying to get rid of an image white background (or make it half-transparent)...

Hi @kaanuki is that what you mean? You can't get rid of a white background in an image (or any other colour, for that matter) by adjusting the alpha in GSC. As has been said, that will affect the whole actor including the image and any background to the image.

So you need to get rid of the background in a program outside of GSC.... Photoshop for instance, then save it as a png file with transparency. Then, when you see it in GamSalad Creator, it'll be the image you want without its background.

I'm quite familiar with what transparency/opacity is. I wanted the background to have a .5 alpha level, while the graphic maintains full opacity.

@gyroscope - I think that was the problem - the images I used werent saved with alpha transparency. So I will try saving them with alpha transparency, and actually fading the white bg of the actor.

You will need to set this up as a complete image prior to importing into Gamesalad, the alpha channel control sets the opacity for whole image/actor and cannot differentiate between a 'background' and a 'foreground'.

Thanks, @Socks. I just asked you a question about the large animations in a previous thread. Please take a look when you have a moment.

    Thanks.
