Letterbox on iPhone 4/4s instead of on the iPhone 5

I have made an app for the iPhone 5 screen size. Is there a way to letterbox the screen on an iPhone 4/4s instead of cropping it so the iPhone 4/4a user can see the whole app? I have searched and can only find examples going the opposite way. Thanks for any suggestions.
